Glasgow’s Alex Smoke has been responsible for some of the most breathtakingly alien and groundbreaking techno of the past few years and now takes the logical step of setting up his own label Hum And Haw with former Soma PR Jim Hutchison. It’s a fine start, three prime Smoke bombs representing each facet of his unique talent. The title track is a dense, urgent rave-up which even features head-mashing hoover-noise mutant. ‘Blackbody’ starts as a galloping electronic hogs-arse grunter lashed with efx then topped with typically oblique neo-classical melodies. ‘Clapface’ is a storming behemoth, thrusting a monstrous funk bass to the fore and gaining steam like a hell-bound express. Fantastic major voyage!
