Playing techno on rock instruments is an approach that’s been staring at dance music all along. Many have tried but few have come up with something other than hackneyed thrashing of chords over bludgeoning grooves with shouty vocals. Phil Kieran, Danny Todd and Corrigan understand that you can take the music somewhere no amount of new flick-of-the-switch gadgetry can muster by going back to the basic ingredients dance music started on. These two tracks stomp, stretch and suddenly change course as blazing riffs smash through the door, white noise guitar feedback resonates and 4/4 drums keep the momentum, but all sewn together electronically. There’s an amazing bit in ‘Liar Face’ where it keeps alternating between blaring white noise and electronic bomber drones – indeed living up to the group’s claim that they wanna sound like nothing you’ve heard before.
