Another of this year’s stellar Soma debuts sees Iain Croucher – the man credited with discovering Mylo in 2002 – teaming up with singer Leigh Myles and unleashing a darkly original exercise in provocative, brain-melting electronic limit-pushing. The single is made more essential by the fact that profits will go towards equipment and research at the Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, which aims to help sick kids more comfortable during their stay. [Noted Glasgow artist Peter Howson has contributed the sleeve]. Apart from the good cause, the single itself is stunning, the original a punishing barrage of mutated vocals, granite groove and unsettling textures. The mighty Alex Smoke contributes a shimmering, shadowy remix with cloudily pulsating undergrowth harbouring a typically-poignant melody while the version by the Unknown Wanderer cooks up an other-worldy drifter of a take. Totally worthy of support on all front.
