Aptly named! Following the mighty Clangers getting an airing on Mark Stage’s ‘Blush’, iO now turn loose the owls with new German DJ-producer and Tongy Bedroom Bedlam candidate Julius Voigtlaender [who’s behind the Daft Punk-Deadmau5 mash-up]. The distinctive hoot floats above crashing old school drum programming making for some toupee-whisking moments. Mark Stage then enters the fray to add creaking malevolence before Da Hool let fly with an epic which extends the owl to a disquieting one-note, bringing in new riffs before the owl pulls on his hypno-strides and exposes himself with classic riffs which become quite ravey before the large drop ushers in yet another new riff. Like I said an epic, in the 90s sense of a mayhem-stoking journey. Good fun all round.
