LAURENT GARNIER
THE CLOUD MAKING MACHINE REWORKS
F COM / PIAS

A vinyl only release for which Garnier has invited selected producers to choose their favourite cuts from his “Cloud Making Machine” LP and re-interpret them.  Three discs cover D&B, house, techno, electronica and electroclash, including C2 aka Carl Craig, Smith & Selway, Slam, DJ Marky & Drum Magik, plus on-line remix competition winner DJ OS’s Davis.  Obviously, there’s not a duff track in sight, so it’s just a matter of wading in and finding one that works for you.  C2 goes old-school Detroit with “Barbiturik Blues” for an epic jazzy bassbin workout that owes a debt to “Doomsnight”.  Smith & Selway toughen up “Waiting For My Plane”, a track that Slam also choose, delivering a minimalist electronic ride.  Surprisingly, the best remix for straight-up dancefloor action is DJ OS’s Davis.  His remix of “Controlling The House” takes it to another dimension, adding some exciting drops for extra dram and a cool tribal riff that should be cheesy yet somehow works.  A fantastic package, musically and artistically.
