MARC HOULE
BAY OF FIGS
MINUS

Actually more like an album’s worth of outer limits electronic flyfishing from the rapidly-rising Houle, who’s become a minimal mainstay over the past two years. Many first heard Marc’s way with alien melodies and grainy future-funk pulses on his remix of Slam’s ‘Kill The Pain’, but Minus devotees were already slavering at the mention of his name and the stuff he’d done as part of the Run Stop Restore project with Pierce and Magda. The two slabs of vinyl here yield nine diverse electronic outings ranging from the wobly riff-drones of ‘Lachs’ and the title track to electro-percolating ‘Stacks And Stacks’. The spaced bleep-fest of the closing ‘Manager’ develops into sheer modulating choas while ‘Items And Things’ – also the name of a new Minus offshoot – dives into 80s-style electro-pop. Whether out there milking space-mice or simply packing the low-slung funk, Houle effortlessly demonstrates a highly-individual talent.
