MOTOR
BLACK POWDER
NOVAMUTE

Since last year’s barnstorming ‘Stuka’, Mr No and Bryan Black have carried out no-holds-barred machine abuse with a mission to upset the applecarts of blandness by making as much noise as possible. ‘Black Powder’ trailers their upcoming debut album, which is a blinder, and serves as a suitable follow-up to ‘Sweatbox’. The track is based on a galvanising, juddering sequence, rumbling roughshod over stiff upper hip drumming and Beltram claps before exploding in their now trademark style of bomber-plane divebomb efx which build into an awesome level of sonic attack. It’s huge, nasty but terrifyingly euphoric. The flip’s non-album ‘Punkture’ starts with Who-like synth sequences before bringing in a massive, discordant grunt motif not unlike a hippo on the bog. There is nothing pretentious about Motor. They want chaos and carnage – and always get it.
