Miserichord

Towering out of the new releases like a Viagra’d-up bison’s stiffie comes the second release on Ewan Pearson’s Miserichord, following Al Usher’s ‘Gnanfou’ EP maiden voyage. For a start it makes its considerable point at 107bpm, the stealth-damage tempo much favoured on New York’s hallucinogenic boogie outings of the early 80s and not far off early acid house experiments. The sound is a heady blend of crashing tympani, orchestral stabs, Eastern strings and rippling pianos, making for a widescreen epic which has already murdered dancefloors who haven’t got their gonads hotwired to the BPM Police’s electrocution torture regime. The flip sees Ewan himself weigh in with a majestic boogie beauty of a remix which beefs the groove and spikes its drink to accentuate its lush, trippy ambience into the realms of something truly magical.
