For the superlatively-striking Berlin imprint’s tenth release, the sleeve has been modified and label stalwart Alex Smoke appears under his new Quixote alias. This is the darker, vocal-free side of Smoke’s unique take on the minimal sound with lead cut ‘Adoquin’ taking its time to build a complex web of discordant riffs and belching melodic spurts over a network of heaving bass and grainy clatters and efx. ‘Pelters’ hovers in on a pulsing throb peppered with distant claps and light-fingered keyboard riffs, while ‘Fank Funk’ is a shadowy scuttler littered with airy riffs and grunts. Underneath it all the wayward bass is having a riot of its own. So’s this brilliant label.
