The Detroit minimal maestro follows the recent reissue ofhis seminal Minimal Nation album to relaunch his M-Plant label by jettisoning a merciless belter of a single which shows him further refining his stripped-down art-form. It’s always remarkable how, often armed with little more than drums, bass and jagged riff, Hood can come up with tracks which are so damn funky but he’s at it again as ‘Obey’ steams in on a malevolent bass rumble peppered with muted, ever-morphing riffage and intricate percussive drive, plus the odd sonorous burp from the machine’s trouser department. ‘Resurrection’ ups gears with elastic bass and relentless drum attack, the pummelling offset by sonic micro-surgery. Heavyweight tackle from the master.
