The Black Dog are about to unleash an album which not only maintains their tradition of pushing the boat out into unchartered waters but hits some sonic stratas which are so deep and alien to be almost frightening. There have already been two singles from Radio Scarecrow [‘Riphead v9’, ‘Floods’] while ‘Set To Receive EP’ is the last trailer. It features possibly the subtlest tracks off the album but also maybe the most sinister. The title cut cooks up a deep techno vamp shot with extra-terrestrial frequencies. ‘EVP Echoes’ [influenced by Electronic Voice Phenomenon] carries a subliminal after-shock within its glacial melodies and the trademark Dog strings which still sound like no others. ‘Shortwave Lies’ is a skittering dancefloor destroyer. These are great tasters but experiencing the whole album in one sitting could blow your mind! More next week.
