Matt Cavender shows up on Mathew Johnson’s esteemed label with a trio of outer limits manipulations. ‘Fishin’ lets fly sepulchral alien frequencies and shifting sonic shapes over muted pulses. ‘Bur’ uncorks plughole riffs over some deep bass action but it’s on ‘Uncle Bill’s Cabin’ that things get strange. The main sound is a creaking, grumpy fuzz-bass riff which twists and turns, takes a dump and occasionally trips up into the beat. Meanwhile, the beat itself marches along, occasionally colliding with different tempos unexpectedly falling down the stairs in a pool of radioactive piss. It’s like a bad dream on the dancefloor and might clear some, but has a reckless, naughty charm of its own.
