Alexandra Prince

The songstress with the voice of a princess returns

Welcome to DMCWORLD Alexandra. Cool surname by the way! So your life in the world of music begins with your mother who was a dancer with a very successful Brazilian dance group in the 70s. What is your earliest memory of music as a child?

“Hey Dan! Well your surname is quite nice too my friend!! My mother showed me a lot of music styles in my childhood but the music that moved me the most was Bossa Nova music. I always loved the melancholy in it. When my mother starts to sing Corcovado it was like magic to me. Yes..my earliest memory is definitely Bossa Nova!”

You leant your trade the hard way, singing in karaoke bars in Hamburg, Germany. Was becoming a musician the only the thing you ever wanted to do with your life when you were growing up?

“I wanted to be a ballerina but when I entered my teenage years, my hormones freaked out and I started to get more curves than was required. Well…cèst la vie!”

Was there a moment on your rise to the top when you nearly threw it all in as you didn’t think you would make it?

“Of course! In the 90`s I had a lot of ups and downs. I was a pretty successful artist but then things start to change. Whenever I thought that I can`t do it anymore, my family and friends always got my back. I think hard times are there to make you stronger! I learnt a lot at this time.”

If were transported back to your bedroom when you were 10 years old, what were the artists you were listening to that inspired you?

“It was the 80`s and I loved everything from New Wave to Studio 54 Disco Music. But what really let me freak out was Modern Talking – hahahaha.”

What did you mother think of you entering such a precarious industry?

“Oh she said…”welcome to my world baby.”

What was the best piece of advice she ever gave you?

“Fight for your rights – don`t sell your soul and don`t let nobody take away your credits!!!!”

What was your first break into the music industry?

“I`ve sang for an artist called Nana, his track ‘Lonely’ turned into a massive No.1 hit in Germany and the song went big all over Europe too. I`ve had the pleasure to be a part of it.”

Which famous clubs could we have found you jumping around in where you fell in love with electronic sounds?

“Oh Boy! I started with techno and trance and I still love it. I was wearing white gloves in the club, yep I confess my sins! The Tunnel Club was very big in Germany. But then I was in Amsterdam and saw the Vibe at the “iT Club”and I immediately felt in love with house music.”

Did you know when you wrote ‘So Many Times’ just how huge a record it was going to be for you?

“No. And I`m still surprised.”

You have sung and written with some mighty electronic producers such as Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Moguai – and now Richard Grey and Nari & Milani. Who have really impressed with you that you have worked with?

“That’s a tough question. I`m feeling all those guys and I loved to work with them. But who really impressed me was Rasmus Faber. He is a tiger on the piano!! Actually we don`t have a release together but it was a very inspiring time to work with him.”

What are your thoughts on the new crop of singers around the world – who do you rate at the moment?

“There are a lot of singers who are coming out with new tracks at the moment. There’s a big wave of tracks crashing down on the music market right now and I prefer to keep my ears clear to keep the focus on my projects. I know that sounds bitchy but I like to be honest. Sorry for that! Actually, the truth is I don’t like to be rated, that’s why I don’t rate other artists.”

So, the new smash -‘Mas Que Nada’ out on Ego – wow! How did this track come about and when did you create this peace of audio magic?

My ‘partner in crime’ told me that he had received a nice Bossa Nova Electro piece. When I heard the track I was convinced without a doubt. I recorded the vocals in my studio and the guys finished the track and did a perfect job! I’m very happy about that collaboration.”

What is coming next from you studio wise in 2012?

“I have finished a  pop/techno album with my project partner Melbeatz for the German market. It’s called ‘Durstlöscher’ (which means thirstkiller). It`s my first production as a producer, songwriter and artist and now I have much more respect for the work that the producers are doing when they are working on a track. Jesus Christ – I didn`t see daylight for a month! But now I`m so proud that I could move a mountain. I’m working on some more collaborations at the moment, but I think it’s too early to talk about them just yet.”

Where is the strangest place you have ever been recognised?

“At the doctor’s while he was doing his medical examination. It was horrible when he looked up and said…”ha, now I remember! I saw you on the television.”

Not many people know this, but Alexandra Prince is really good at…

“Drinking vodka for good Lalala and Yodeling!!!

Nobody knows this, but my guilty pleasure song is…

“Rednex Cotton Eye Joe!! If I`m tipsy evacuate the dancefloor!!! I’m getting some slippy shoes with that tune. I love it…it`s too funny.”

Describe a perfect weekend for you…

“A weekend with my family!

And finally, what is the greatest record you have ever worked on?

“What a question…..Mais Que Nada off course…”
