CIUTAT (which means “city” in Catalan) is the collaborative project of JP Sunshine and Guim, two pivotal members of Barcelona’s influential Mainline collective. The duo emerged as a vehicle for exploring their pop-oriented instincts while weaving in elements of house, jazz, and nuevo flamenco – a distinctive fusion that has established them as one of Barcelona’s most beloved electronic acts. As they release their new four-track ‘Fidget Spinner’ EP, hailing a triumphant return to their club origins, featuring a collaboration with legendary French producer MYD (Ed Banger Records), alongside remixes from Barcelona’s Yung Prado and Montenegro, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with CIUTAT.
JP’s five tracks:
Jacky Terrasson – Mo’ Better Blues
Takes me back to touring in the van with the Ciutat crew.
Juan Luis Guerra – El Niágara en Bicicleta
Reminds me of DJ sets. We love blending it with more electronic stuff. Always works. Total secret weapon.
Miles Davis – Human Nature
A beautiful version, perfect for the ride home after an afters.
Rosario – Qué Bonito
Brings back childhood memories, driving around with family blasting this in the car.
Fito Páez – 11 y 6
One of those tracks that annoys me… because I wish I’d written it.
Guim’s five tracks:
Massive Attack, Tracey Thorn – Protection
My friends and I used to play this track before going to sleep after a long party. It worked like a charm for having the sweetest dreams.
Sade – Give It Up
Perfect for slowing the dance down a bit without losing the groove.
Daft Punk – Veridis Quo
One of my favorite Daft Punk songs. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of a video game I used to play as a kid: Simon the Sorcerer.
John Talabot, Pional – Destiny
This album still stands today as strong as it did when it came out. Looking forward to hearing new things from him.
Chemical Brothers – One Too Many Mornings
Just that. One too many mornings.
