This has been another very strong year for those acts who might be termed as ‘shoegaze’, with the likes of Washed Out delivering strong albums and another stormer from M83 on the horizon. The Stockholm duo I Break Horses add to that canon, fronted as they are by singer Maria Lindén. She doesn’t hold back in her praise for the Cocteau Twins, and their influence is evident on tracks like the beatless ‘I Kill Love, Baby!’, but there is more to this music as found in the widescreen power of the closing ‘No Way Outro’, the gorgeous sighing chorus of ‘Pulse’ and the soaring melodies of ‘Winter Beats’. ‘Cancer’, meanwhile, sounds like the tolling of an exotic clock, showing off this luminous music to the full. Dive in and lose yourself.
