It’s a cool blue for the second in Freerange’s ‘Colour’ series, which offers a selection of unreleased tracks and label favourites. Jazzy undertones are felt in the first few tracks from Audiomontage, Subjekt and Sold On Sound, whose ‘Fresh Air’ has an appealing, cheeky trumpet line. The latter part of the collection heads for a more techy sound, with Jimpster’s dub of Random Factor’s ‘Move On’, Kirk Degiorgio with the excellent ‘Cosmic Peasant’ and the reliably good Mr Fingers remixing Shur-I-Kan. A fine, varied showcase of a label that remains admirably forward thinking.
