For their Ibiza compilation Cocoon offer us a nice twist on the familiar double compilation theme. The first of two sets is a DJ mixed affair from Ilario Alicante, before we get a live set from Alejandro Mosso. Alicante is frankly superb, the best mix I’ve heard from Cocoon for some time, one that shows off a wealth of talent. He moves from sultry beginnings to a show of power when ‘Go For What Hurts’ by Henrik Bergqvist shows the way forward. The rolling beats of Head High’s ‘Keep On Talking’ are superb, while Parris Mitchel and Ritzi Lee both show themselves to be more than capable of inflicting dancefloor damage with ‘Near My Eyes’ and ‘Reverse Processed’ respectively, before we get the cracking ‘010X’ from Benjamin Damage. Alejandro Mosso’s set may not quite so immediate but it rewards repeated listening thanks to its more stripped back approach. The set moves through the heat soaked minimal grooves ‘Aconcagua’ and ‘Tupungato’, plus the hazy and heady remix of Christian Sol’s ‘Kids At Work’, while the melodic ‘Cashmere’ and acid-inflected ‘Nightwalker’ should not be forgotten either. One of the best Ibiza offerings this summer, and very highly recommended, especially for Alicante’s stormer of a mix.
