I’ve always had a soft spot for all things Exploited – all the artists in Shir Khan’s stable just seem to have a way with a funky groove and a house beat and this EP is happy valley for anyone who loves downtempo vibes or is a geeky trainspotter who likes to name that sampled tune in one. Take Purple Disco Machine and ‘Magic’ – here the ‘Saturday’ slithery bassline and organ riff sits happily underneath the MC Magic vocal prompts and makes you wriggle to its simple slo-mo beat. Dayne S works a repetitive vocal loop into a disco groove worth of early Bangalter / Roulé or Alan Braxe proportions. Zoka’s ‘I Don’t Dance’ threads some Whitney Houston ‘It’s Not Right’ vocal snippets into an off-key piano jam perfect for next millenial speakeasys and sweaty back rooms. ‘Professional Lover’ is a slow-mo, disco funk roller with an fx-d spoken vocal that could easily set hammocks a swinging. It’s all of that and a Vinyl and Digital release bag of winner’s chips too. Perfect for early doors sessions and terrace sets.
