An understated techno mix that introduces many new sounds and, given time, blooms into a document you’d be hard pressed to do without. Not content with reflecting one room at Fabric, Matthew Dear was keen to capture the whole club on a Saturday night, and this mix of largely ambient material succeeds by keeping its options open, with the sine wave figuration of an extraordinary three-way clash between Butane, Arion and Yamo, the square funk of Claude VonStroke’s ‘Deep Throat’ and the elastic bass line of Argy’s ‘Rhino In A Glass Shop’. By using layered textures and rhythms Dear creates a new slant on the conventional mix album, and makes it a rewarding experience.
