Do my eyes deceive me? Classic was one great label. Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s mission to instill funk, innovation and a healthy dollop of insanity. Then sadly it went the way of so many worthy independents and had to shut down. Now it’s back, in cahoots with Luke’s Music For Freaks with kindred spirit Rob Mello collating past gems, seeing them subjected to some warped adjustment by other like minds and whacking them on an album – which this isn’t, being four tracks giving a taste of the event in store. There’s a Derrick Carter re-edit of the demo of Rob’s ‘Fantasize’Freeform 5’s ‘Perspex Sex’ getting jiggled by Ewan Pearson at the best party on Earth. C++’s demented brain-strangler ‘Angie’s Fucked’ and a bonus Solomon outing as the Digital Kid. With Rob stepping to the fore, it’s a timely reminder of what a great label this was.
