The whole purpose of the Back To Mine series is for artists to show off their eclecticism and to give the reader and their fans an insight into their musical minds. Sometimes they go off on a tangent to a place so far, far away that we’ve never encountered the music they talk about before, while others times their idea of an afterparty or a Back To Mine is one where straight-up bangers and pop tracks mingle seamlessly with one another. Fernanda Martins’ selections definitely belong in the latter camp. Known for her hard techno style, the Brazil-born, Barcelona-based DJ, producer and label owner has enjoyed a fine time of it over the past while, with her sound increasingly endearing her to new audiences around Europe and beyond. So here’s what went down when we had Fernanda pick out some of her favourite Back To Mine gems…
Chemical Brothers – ‘The Test’
‘The Test’ is one of my favorite tracks of all time. Since the first time I listened to it, it made me feel something very deep, that somehow makes me feel much more connected to myself. It’s strange, and very difficult to explain this feeling … I guess it’s just one of those few tracks that wake up these kind of sensations inside me…
Justice – ‘Stress’
Another track that brings about different emotions in me. Every time I listen to this track it’s a mindtrip. Love this one!
Daft Punk – Rollin’ & Scratchin’
Like most people, I love a lot of stuff made by Daft Punk. This one is one of my favourites from them. Often before gigs I’ll listen to this one while I’m getting ready to get me fired up.
Depeche Mode – ‘Dream On’ (Video)
It’s not their best known but it’s definitely my favourite! The lyrics are just so deep and delivered brilliant. Plus the message behind the track is very apt for the world I live in!
New Order – Blue Monday
I don’t need even to explain why is this one is in the list. I love this track, just like everyone else!
Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy
To listen to this one makes me very relaxed. An amazing track that sometimes I just need to listen to feed my soul. By the way… one of the best shows I’ve ever been was Massive Attack concert.
Aphex Twin – Icct Hedral (Philip Glass Orchestration)
I remember the first time I listened to this track I was in the car. It was around 2am, and I was listening to a very cool radio program they make late at night on Radio 3, a Spanish radio station. The guy introducing the track introduced it as Aphex Twin and Philip Glass and I had an idea then it might be something special. I turned the volume up and enjoyed the track very much! Really intense and something I still turn to.
Johnny Cash – Hurt
You know, Johnny Cash’s style, this mix of country, folk, rock and blues… it’s so amazing! Love his work very much and this one here is really great! I think everyone can identify with what he sings here. An amazing cover.
Flo Rida – My Housev
It can sound really strange to find this track in this list, but the reality is that a list of ten tracks is tooooo short to show everything I usually listen to. ¨My House¨ has a good vibe and it reminds me of a period of my life where my place was the before party and after destination. Good times!
AC/DC – Thunderstruckv
Just one of the so many great tracks from AC/DC. It was the track I choose to be played on my wedding when I was throwing the bouquet. It was a funny moment with a great soundtrack… and it’s definitely going on at my afterparty!
