Inland Knight

1. BASSCHECK 1980-2005 COMPILED BY SLOPE (CRIPPLED DICK HOT WAX NO.96)
Compilation of old funk/hip hop/electro/house from slope….apparently a couple of things on here that havn’t seen the light of day since their initial release on 12″. Standout tracks include material ‘over and over’ as well as slope’s own ‘Basscheck’ which was a big track for us a while back.

2. VOCAL STUDIES AND UPROCK NARRATIVES ‘PREFUSE 73’
Don’t know too much about this as a mate of ours gave us a copy…best way to describe is that its hip hop written for tuntablists…loads of cut up samples, scratches and clever arrangements that work really well….cant say which tracks I like because this is a cdr…(track 3 and 8 are shit hot tho’).

3. ROOTS MANUVA ‘AWFULLY DEEP’ (BIG DADA)
New album by premier British hip hop act…still growing on me to be honest…….love his two previous albums and sure I’ll get into this one too….

4. LAYO/BUSHWACKER ‘LOWLIFE’
Top album from a couple of years back….been listening to this loads in the car lately…the great thing about these guys is they’re really diverse…they will turn their hand to house, breaks or more downtempo tracks and they can pull it all off really creatively…and this album is a perfect example of this…great motorway music!

5. URB’N’MYTH (UNRELEASED)
Unreleased album from great Nottingham band who unfortunately split before getting to put this out on diy discs….great soul and hip hop tracks and awesome songs from start to finish….in fact it would be a tragedy for this not to have a full release at some point.

6. THE HERBALIZER ‘MERCENARY’ (NINJA TUNES)
Being playing this in the car and around the house for years now, still sounds brilliant. All of it.

7. GRAND THEFT AUTO VICE CITY ‘FERNANDO PRESENTS’ (EMOTION 98.30)
Can’t beat some of that 80’s pop, good selection of classics like Jan Hammer and Mister Mister Luther Vandross, this CD is taken from a radio station from the game, it’s smooth and nostalgic. And cheesy.

8. NOUVELLE VAGUE (PEACE FROG RECORDS)
A selection of covers inc “Love Will Tear Us Apart” being my favourite, new order being the original of course , a latin tinged retake that never tires with listening.

9 MR SCRUFF ‘KEEP IT SOLID STEEL’ (ON SOLID STEEL)
Great DJ mix up of what can only be described as every style of music there is (almost) 31 tracks mixed up in all making this a long haul trip of bendy funky twisty funk, reggae, soul ect.

10 VANGELIS ‘THEMES’ (POLYDOR)
Really old this one, and I just got it on CDoff Ebay, had a cassette years back which got lost. Got the soundtracks from the Blade Runner film, and mutiny on the bounty, it’s not hip, but it’s Great , Sasha used to open his sets’s in 89 with a track from this!!
