Andy Moor

Brand new album from the producer with the midas touch

Grammy-nominated Andy Moor is one of the most respected producers in the electronic music industry whose incredible talents and work ethos have earned him a catalogue of accolades. His AVA Recordings label produces anthem after anthem and now the boy wonder returns with his long awaited new album ‘Zero Point One’. World get ready.

Andy, welcome to DMCWORLD. Massive new album out this week – ‘Zero Point One’, I understand it’s been quite a process to finally get this, your solo album finally released?

“Yes it has taken some time due to a variety of factors. Having a laborious production process, being constantly on tour, getting bored with some of the older tunes therefore replacing those, none of this helped. I ended up slowing down the touring for a few months + creating a more efficient studio workflow method to get it finished.”

So, 18 original tracks covering many genres – it’s an album not just based purely on club music – was the idea to create something of longevity with it?

“I put a lot of emphasis on longevity in everything, therefore this was a key factor with this album. If I got bored of the tracks whilst making them, then they don’t get released. If I’m more enthused at the end than at the beginning then that’s a good sign. There are a lot of vocalists on the album, and I set myself that challenge to use a lot of vocal tracks whilst still keeping the cohesion. It would be rude of me to pick one vocalist who stood out, they all play an important part.”

There are so many different styles on the album, how though if pushed would you describe this long player?

“Good question, as I have no idea. But now I’ve been pushed I suppose it is an electronic music album which can trace its roots to EDM, with thought provoking moments, a variety of 4/4 tracks intertwined with more experimental sounds yet trying to keep some cohesion.”

You are responsible for some trance classics over the years, ‘Halcyon’, ‘Air For Life’, ‘Fake Awake’, your remix for Delirium, ‘Daydream’ the list goes on and on. Do you there is one particular track from the album that people are going to see as another one your all time tunes?

“I never intended any of those tunes to be classics so it would be difficult for me to choose one of these. From the response so far Trespass has received positive reactions, but my tunes normally take time to become engrained into peoples minds before being dubbed ‘classic’, so time will tell.”

Have you any artists in mind for remix duties for any of the tracks already?

“Aly+Fila, Rafael Frost and Joseph Areas have all remixed ‘In your Arms’ and we are currently in the process of deciding on remixers for my next single.”

You once said “as long as I am still learning, then hopefully my sound will evolve.” How do you think your sound has evolved in recent years?

“I would like to keep some of the elements in my music that connect with peoples feelings, but whilst changing the production styles. At the moment the big tunes are club bangers that have little relationship to a feeling, so it would be great to be able to amalgamate these two idea’s.”

I love the way you answer some of the questions interviewers throw out at you. When asked by one ‘what is the most exciting thing you have done recently? – you answered ‘ate a round apple’ and when asked by another ‘what are your pre-DJing rituals’, you answered ‘I do 2 backflips followed by a half twist pike’. I’m surprised you still do interviews!

“I enjoy banter, I enjoy doing interviews, why can’t they be intertwined?”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

“Plates (your previous question encouraged this response).”

You have a lot of gigs coming up in Ibiza over the next couple of months – was that on purpose, a chance to kick back a little after the album is done and dusted?

“You’ve caught me red handed (and currently red faced due to a lack of factor 50). I like a challenge and wanted to get involved in the new night Colors, spend some time with family who have put up with a lot, experience what its like to produce whilst surrounded by beauty+sun, it’s a great place to be.”

What are the big festivals you will be smashing this summer?

“I’ll be playing Tomorrowland – Belgium, Summer Festival – Finland, Sziget Festival – Hungary, Joy Festival – Ireland, Cacao Beach – Bulgaria etc etc.”

Who are the producers from around the world you are giving high fives to at the moment?

“There is a lot of great productions coming out from the likes of Omnia, Rafael Frost, Ashley Wallbridge etc.”

Outside of trance and progressive, what genres of music do you listen to?

“I listen to lots of styles, for both pleasure and curiosity. Chillout, various genres of electronic, rock, even pop due to the current 4/4 trend as I like to analyse those productions.”

And finally, did your school mates ever find out you played the bassoon?

“Haha, yes. I was playing a concert which I thought was for the 1st years, but when the curtains went back to my horror there was all of my school year. Luckily by then I think they were mature enough to not laugh quite as loud as I would have expected.”
