DMCWORLD AWARDS 2015 – ALX

The Miami main man simply loving life in 2015

Tune of 2015

I’m constantly amazed by new tracks that are coming out. Thanks to technology and how artists are using it, we’re finding new ways to make music and incorporate new elements into our tracks. I’ve been following a bunch of artists (both known and up-and-coming), but if I had to pick just one track, it’d probably be Conjure Floyd by Maceo Plex. Maceo has an incredible sound and I’m also a huge Pink Floyd fan. I got goosbumps the first time I heard it because I instantly recalled seeing The Wall Live by Roger Waters in 2010 and 2012; a true classic and by far the best concert I’ve ever seen

Your best DJ moment of 2015

My track ‘Don’t’ reaching Beatport’s Top 25 (Techno), then hearing Pan-Pot play it at Space in Ibiza. Also, having the opportunity to launch my Descend party on the Club Space (Miami) Terrace was a big one

Your worst DJ moment of 2015

I wouldn’t say there are any “worst” moments when DJing. In musical performances, as with any performance on any medium, there may be minor slip-ups but thankfully I haven’t experienced anything major. Ultimately, we’re all human and it’s the little imperfections that make live music unique and fill it with energy. If it wasn’t for that, we’d all be listening to perfectly recorded albums in the clubs and wouldn’t need DJs.

Guilty Pleasure track of 2015

Living in Miami, I’m exposed to practically all genres of music and one of my go-to songs is ‘Gold’ by Imagine Dragons. I’m not one to listen to electronic music 24/7. Even though it’s a large part of my career, I think it’s important to listen to all types of music. Personally, it helps fuel my creativity and takes my mind off of things when I’m stuck in the studio or doing things around the house.

Selfie pic of the year:

Although 2015 has blessed me with amazing gigs and adventures, my favourite selfi was taken with what matters the most to me, my family. This year, my wife and I welcomed our first child, Nicholas, into our lives and he has changed us forever. We’re doing everything to make sure we are the best parents we can be and pass on the lessons we learned as children from our parents.

Best DJ argument of the year

I try not to follow DJ arguments. I don’t like how much attention and energy that the press and fans put into DJs posting negative things. Arguments between artists are counterproductive and do nothing to advance the industry. Whatever the underlying reason, whether for PR or attention, it distracts everyone from what’s really important in this industry: the music.

Most annoying record of 2015

Who am I to label a record as “annoying”? At the end of the day, a team people came together and tons of energy into making that record- whatever it may be. As long as a fan is enjoying that music, the record served it’s purpose. What I would find annoying is making music for the wrong reasons, for example, producing music you’re not in love with or are passionate about.

Biggest loser of 2015

I won’t call out any losers because, again, who am I to judge? The only losers are the ones who don’t give it their all or who didn’t try at all out of fear. It’s easy to be a critic; everyone has a misstep from time to time and eventually you will to. Why be the jackass trying to hold someone back when they made a mistake?

New Years Resolution

Overall, I just want to continuing growing as much as I can as a person, father, and in my career. Society is creating new things faster than ever and I just want to be able to learn as much as I can. I want to continue exchanging ideas with my friends and fellow DJs so that we can all continue moving forward together.
