Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough

By the time I discovered this song it was already a classic. It brought me into the the realm of Depeche Mode and thus, electronic music. Basically, this was my gateway drug! This track always makes the appearance at that point in the after party when we all start to play our ‘guilty pleasures’ AKA the Happy Song Game. The Rules are simple, you get to play what ever you want and no-one is allowed to Judge you or Roast you for it 😉

Deee-Lite – Groove Is In The Heart

I think I’ll still be jamming to this track long after I’ve left this life. De’Groovy Delicious Dee Lite.

Prodigy – One Love

This track came off the first album I ever bought, Prodigy’s ‘Music For The Jilted Generation’ (on tape cassette I might add! <3 ), rave culture at its finest. Given that it was produced in 1992 the level of intricacy and sound design is outstanding.

The Good Men – Give It Up

I was given this as a vinyl record by a local DJ because I was relentless in asking him for replays! The drum intro fascinated me, and the groove wouldn’t let me out. It turns out that this was Samba, and Samba rhythms became a part of me from then on.

Shameless self promotion alert; however, this song came from some kind of ancestral calling. The vocals were not written, they were channeled by Akil Varinda! Passed down by ‘old souls’, this song is ageing like a fine wine 😉 Wha Ley Le Ley!

Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra – Too Much Information (Laolu Remix)

There’s no doubt this track was a massive gateway for (and into) Afro House. Laolu was able to cross over the moods of Deep House and Afro so well, that it really helped move European tastes back to a more organic and emotional state.

Stimming & H.O.S.H – Radar

The track teases for a while then just popped into life. This old style ‘Hammond Organ’ reminds me of my grandfather who used to play like this. Obviously there is an emotional connection there for me, but never the less, this is a real lesson in classy production.

AMÉMÉ – Power

This song is in a place of it’s own for me. It taps into the your primal power, time and time again conjuring up a tribal communion. This feels timeless to me with no signs of feeling tired.

Planet Heaven – Nautical Bodies

When DJ Paul Oakenfold reigned supreme from Liverpool’s Club ‘Cream’, this seminal track was a gateway to a huge new world of progressive music, paving the world for new generations to come.

Goldie – Inner City Life

Simply a masterpiece. This was a part of the album, ‘Timeless’; perfectly titled I think.
