DMCWORLD AWARDS 2015 – Charlotte De Witte

One of techno’s leading lady’s rocked Pukkelpop and Tomorrowland this summer

Tune of 2015

I’d have to go for quite a recent one since it’s definitely my favorite track of this year and nothing that has been released in 2015 beats this track.
It’s an absolute killer: Ben Klock – Sirens.

Your best DJ moment of 2015

Playing at Pukkelpop in Belgium. It’s always a huge pleasure to perform there but this year seemed to be something else.  There were so many people standing there, dancing their asses off while enjoying the music. The look on some of their faces was priceless. I was amazed by how intimate this experience was, given the fact that you’re playing on a huge outdoor stage of one of the biggest festivals in Belgium. Besides the time were I was actually playing my set, that entire day was very memorable.  Having a lot of friends around, partying until the early morning.. The weather was amazing as well so basically, everything was perfect.

Your worst DJ moment of 2015

Supposedly playing in Ukraine on a private party. That actually happened not too long ago. There were two different venues booked for this guy’s party. I had to play in the second venue in Kiev from 2 until 4. Turned out that everyone got so drunk during dinner at the first venue that no one actually made it to the club where i was supposed to play. The only people I saw standing in front of the booth was the cleaning staff. Auwtch.

Guilty pleasure track of 2015

Lana Del Rey – High By The Beach

Selfie pic of the year

I took a selfie when I was on Tomorrowland, about to play my set. Besides shuttles, they also have water taxis on their festival.  I just needed to take a selfie of that.

DJ of the year

Rodhad

Label of the year

I’d go for the French label Amazone Records. They released a lot of solid techno tracks this year, both on EP’s and on compilations. At least one of their tracks will be present in my set when I’m playing somewhere.

Best breakthrough producer

Answer Code Request

Best DJ argument of the year

Taking this “best” DJ argument all sarcastically; but one of the things that struck me most this year was the discussion between the finalists of the DJ Mag Top 100 and the shitload of bashing on social media they did on each other afterwards. Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike took the throne from Hardwell, who didn’t really appreciate losing his no. 1 spot on the list. EDM is not at all my cup of tea. I’m not a fan of the genre, but it was a funny discussion to watch.

Most annoying record of 2015

Martin Solveig feat. Sam White – “+1”. Just. No.

Best piece of studio kit launched in 2015

Native Instrument’s “Symphonies Series – String Ensemble”. I’m a total sucker for strings, they are my major weak spot. On top of that, a lot of my production work is done with NI plugins so I’m a big fan of practically everything they create. For instance, I also truly enjoyed their Komplete Ultimate 10 upgrade. Still do. Main inspiration for 95% of my tracks. The options are endless.

Biggest loser of 2015

Ten Walls. Sorry. Even though he apologised A LOT, I can’t seem to understand how one could ruin his entire career by giving his opinion on social media.
Don’t we all realise how dangerous that stuff can be? It happened before.. It’s just a sad story.

New Years Resolution?

Quite boring I’m afraid. I’d love to make a lot of new tracks and evolve and get better by doing so. I would also love to have a kind of schedule for working out. Go running 3 times a week, stuff like that. Maybe also follow a course in marketing or management, maybe photography or cooking. I love food.
