The coolest trio on the planet talk Miami, Ibiza, new albums and Prince
Interview : Dan Prince
Guys welcome to MCWORLD, I believe you are on a plane right now leaving Miami…but we hear Mexico was wild last weekend?
“Hey Dan, yeah Mexico was great! It’s the second time we work with Flavio Navarro who is putting on some great parties, this time at Tara Roma. The crowd that comes to his parties have a great vibe and are very well educated musically. Plus of course it’s always cool to play on a roof top in a middle of a big city.”
You had a load of exciting parties in South Beach. In your eyes, is Miami still the most important week on the dance music calendar or have events such as BPM, ADE and IMS crept on it?
“Yes this year in Miami we played at the Lola ED Showcase at Treehouse with our agency mates Djebali and John Dimas plus special guest Jovonn. Then we had ENTER and Dyed and Dan played Circoloco…plus a few solo gigs at some cool parties throughout the week. Miami still leads the dance music calendar but BPM is great too – it’s growing every year. Those kinds of events are really important to catch the US crowd mixed with a European vibe, it’s a meeting point for clubbers and promoters from all around the world.”
Who are some of the DJs you love hanging with in Miami week, who are the madmen?
“We’re hanging out with a lot of crazy artists around the world but it’s not that often that we are all together is the same city with a full week of intense parties. But to be honest we had a lot of good times with Djebali and John Dimas, those two guys are brilliant and very funny! We were all together in an apartment for Miami week actually.”
Dan : ”I prefer to be on the decks.de chart than on the beatport chart.” Discuss.
“It’ s very simple check the top 10 of beatport. I will probably buy none of the tracks, but if I check the top 10 of decks I would probably buy the half of it. The music I don’t like is pollution for me. I try to hang out where my ears will not suffer.”
A very exciting party coming up in April at The Tunnel, the UK love you! How was Fabric in London a couple of weeks ago…why is this club so damn good?
“We love the UK too, it’s always good vibes and crazy energy. Fabric was great as always, the club has one of the best sound systems in the world we love martin audio. And Judy (promotions manager) is the best host ever we love to work with her. It’s not only working it’s to go visit a very good friend.”

What is the best experience you have had together behind the decks?
“Well we never play the same yet it always fits.. we have a very natural flow together. There’s been so many amazing parties and after parties all over the world, but I guess a memorable one would have to be our first Apollonia showcase at DC10 in 2012, it was such an honour to takeover the decks at one of our favourite clubs.”
Ibiza is thankfully on the horizon, DMCWORLD cannot f**king wait for the opening for Amnesia where you will be rocking the Terrace. Where else will you be appearing this summer on the white isle?
“We are really happy to play Amnesia Opening for the first time, it’s one of the main events of the season. Also new for this summer we are gonna do 2 shows at ENTER for Richie Hawtin. And of course we have our residency at Circoloco, DC10 our home…”
Throw some reasons at us why Ibiza is so special to you all?
“We’ve known everybody there for so many years and it’s so good to be there to live this passion under the sun. The parties are non-stop, we are always playing in clubs or villas and this is what we like more than anything.”
Dan : I know you are a big fan, did you make it to any of the Prince secret gigs last month?
“No, we have been in Berlin working on our new album but it’s true, I wish I could have been there!”
Who are some of the exciting up and coming producers you have seen on your travels recently?
“I’ll say their names again, John Dimas and Djebali, mind-blowing!”
What is the 1 festival you cannot wait for this summer?
“So many of them! For Croatia Sonus and Hideout. And for the UK we are back again at We Are FSTVL”
Always wanted to ask this, you must pick the same record a lot when spinning together, what happens, who comes out on top?
“Our back2back2back is one record each and we stick to that, when it’s your turn you play. But when that situation happens, which it does, we are really happy cos it means we are on the same page.”
Has this ever happened…one of you guys plays a record and the other two look at each other behind their back and shake their heads?
“Haha. Never! More often than not the other 2 are nodding their heads in approval.”
What is coming out next from the label?
“The next EP is new music from US House legend Jovonn! Then later in the year we have an EP coming from Frenchie David K.”
And finally, what is coming out next from you guys studio wise?
“We have been working hard on the debut Apollonia album, due for release after the summer. Such an exciting project for us, more to be revealed soon…”
