The UK dons responsible for two of the biggest tunes of the summer

Interview by Dan Prince

Guys a massive welcome back to DMCWORLD. What an ‘effin summer you are having! Tunes galore and some mouth watering gigs in the sunshine. Life pretty good then?

Hiiiii DMCWORLD crew…yer, it’s been non stop lately, we’ve spent the last two weeks doing a mini tour on the east coast of America which was fun. Our latest track ‘Constellations’ is currently being promo’d and getting some huge reactions right across the DJ World which is cool.

A Facebook entry from you yesterday…“Fuck I’m jet lagged…I just nearly uploaded the wav master of our new demo hahaha…!!!” – what’s the story there, New York get to ya?!?!?

Haha yerrrr!!!! Axwell’s label Axtone needed a Radio Edit of the next release and just as I was about to press what I thought was send I realised I’d uploaded the track to Facebook…haha imagine!!!! We’d literally just stepped of the plane from The US, so yerrr blame the Jet Lag…

What were some of the highlights from the America tour?

It was a really great experience. Our first gig at Rumor Nightclub in Philadelphia was really cool as was the party at Cielo, New York. They have an unbelievable system there so we road tested a few new bits.

Tell us about Ibiza this year, you rocked the opening of Paradise – did you get a chance to have a wander around checking out anywhere else?

Yer we had a few days off so what better place to spend them than in Ibiza? We went to DC10 twice in 3 days. First Monday for Circo Loco then Wednesday for Jamie Jones’s Paradise opening which was insane. He went back to back with The Martinez Bros for about 5 hours, it was pretty special!!!! The next day we used our Snapchat to trace our steps back home haha, it got a lil messy…we didnt really get chance to go elsewhere although Tinie Temper held a pool party in our hotel (Hard Rock) which isn’t really our thing but we gotta give it to the guy – it was rocking from start to finish…

‘Paradigm’ is becoming something of a mainstay set finale out there this summer, were you expecting that?

We didn’t really know what to expect with ‘Paradigm’, it’s really different to anything else out there. We recently played We Are FSTVL in the UK and had chance to wonder around the other tents, just as we walked into MK’s Arena he dropped it which was really great to witness, I think it’s been a huge part of his summer sets.

So you mentioned you the new track earlier and congratulations on another Buzz Chart No. 1 with ‘Constellations’. Please talk us through the sound and history of the track…

Wow…yer thanks so much for that, we really appreciate all the support. We did a writing camp with Spinnin’ Records back in early 2015 and we’re already planning for the summer, so that was our focus – to make a Balearic beat that would stand up years from now. Regarding the sound, we decided on a very basic electro arp and lots of bottom end. We played a sample to Jorn (Spinnin’ A&R) and he instantly loved it, we’d even entitled the demo ‘Ibiza’…ha ha which on completion became ‘Constellations’.

Have any producer’s names popped up on the latest two tracks giving you their thumbs up that have surprised you?

Yer completely as mentioned above MK on ‘Paradigm’ was a shock and to see him play it at all these different festivals is awesome. Pete Tong, Danny Howard, B. Traits have been all over ‘Constellations’ both in live sets and on BBC Radio 1 airplay which has really helped push the track to the next level. I’ve seen a blog describe CamelPhat as ‘genre blurring house makers’, they’ve kind of got a point especially with these tracks… Nicky Romero, Oliver Heldens, Annie Mac, Mark Knight, Diplo, Finnebassen to name but a few have all showed support but you’d very rarely catch them on the same flyer/party so I guess we’re doing something right haha…

What’s the best piece of kit in your studio you can’t live without?

The laptop, without that we have no studio…we take it everywhere with us.

What are the positives and negatives of working together as a duo as opposed to solo productions?

We’ve known each other so long we don’t really have any negatives…like we kind of know when we’ve had enough of each other for that day or if a track/idea isn’t working out. We’ll just stop everything and resume the next day or week. The worst thing for a producer is forcing the music. It’ll never ever sound right. The positives are all day…we have double the amount of ideas in the studio, extra set of ears to help get things sounding nice, we can blame each other when things go wrong ha ha and travelling/touring is much more fun doing it with ya bezzie.

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…

– Groove_Armada_- Love_Sweet_Sound_(Kölsch_Remix)

Unbelievable production, one of the stand out tracks of our Amercian tour.

– Point G – Balea

Possibly the IBIZA Track of 2015. Heard it at both DC10 parties we attended and was instantly screaming OMG WTF is that tune to the DJ!!!!!?

– Sabb – One Of Us + Forrest (Dennis Ferrer Remix)

The vocal is so cool and Dennis’s subtle touch really puts this track in a different league.

– Lehar – Zephyr (Original Mix)

Just a masterclass in house music. A SERIOUS RECORD!

– Kevin Knapp – Heft (Original Mix)

I think this will get a lot of support over the next few weeks. Huge record in our bag right now!!!

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?

Point G – ‘Balea’…kind of obsessed with this track!!!

An up and coming producer to watch out for over the next 12 months?

Wow so many…Kydus and David Glass are really good friends of ours and both absolutely killing Ibiza right now. Carl Cox has been all over these guys for months!!! Michael Mandal and Deputy are also great producers to watch out for…

You’ll be hitting EGG London soon, still one of the best clubs in the UK. Why is that?

I think its the layout…the DJ box is situated right amongst it, exactly where you should be. The 3 floors really give it that club feel offering something different on each level and the system is pretty bangin!!!

3 bucket list adventures you wanna do in your lifetime?

Play Space Ibiza Terrace for at least 3 hours…

Dive with a great white shark (in a cage)

Watch Everton FC in a Champions League Final…and win of course…

Maybe that last one is asking to much haha.

And finally, what is coming next from you guys studio wise?

New track coming with Axtone ‘CamelPhat Feat. Eden – Siren Song . Few more releases with Spinnin’ Deep and we are currently working on a new EP…
