Dirty Vegas

The Grammy winning duo return with brand new single ‘Do What You Feel’ on d:vision – MASSIVE

Interview by Dan Prince

Paul a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…

Thanks Dan, always a pleasure…

Where in the world are you right now?

Currently at home in leafy Barnes, but off to Aspen in Colorado on Wednesday and then staying in the States for a couple of weeks playing shows.

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after crawling out of bed?

I didn’t hear anything until I got into the studio today, so I guess it was MJ Cole playing the piano!

A very exciting week for you guys thanks to the release of your brand new single ‘Do What You Feel’, swinging our way on D:VISION ahead of the new album. Talk us through the track…

Guitar lead and summer vibes – we wrote it in LA and it has that feel to it. We always write songs that can then always be remixed and translated to the dancefloor and again I think this has that. Also we are lucky enough to have a pretty special video for it…

The single slams in with a stellar remix package from three of Germany’s brightest producers in Timo Jahns, Zwette and rising star Paul Vinx. Why were these guys chosen to rework your tune and what were your thoughts in each new production?

Personally big fans of Timo and Zwette and have been watching them deliver great mix after great mix. And again, I think they have delivered. My friend Sebi from Great Stuff recommend Paul Vinx and I’m happy to say he has delivered exactly what we needed, a mix that’s a bit more peak time – all in all, it’s a very solid set of mixes

You were spotted floating off the island of Formentera last week on a fancy yacht…you have been coming to Ibiza for a loooooooong time. What are your thoughts on the club scene on the white isle in 2015?

Yes my first visit was the very start of the 90s when it was open air clubs, Alfredo and Balearic beats. Now it has become such an incredible business and I’m not for or against that, it’s progress and things have to change to move forward. But it’s great to see over the last couple of years the ‘underground’ coming back. Dc10 has been going for a long time, we actually played there over 10 years ago I think !!  Ibiza is still what you want it to be, and that has never changed.

You were also spotted at Queens Tennis Club and on the fairway at one of the south of England’s finest golf courses recently. What is this? A mid-life get fit crisis going on? I remember the days when the only sport you were interested in was popping into the local bookies for a bet on the nags?

Haha! Yes I’ve started to try and get some kind of sport going on, I thought it was about time. But the problem is I’m not that great at either at the moment. I guess you can say the same about my betting!

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend, please give us a few words on each…

Mr V, Louie Vega & SanXero – Lets Freak (Antony Toga Remix) – solid solid groove, very simple, but so effective.

Dirty Vegas – Do What You Feel (Timo Jahns remix) – Timo doing what he does best and turning this into something special. Did I say it was out now??

Sam Sure – Hunger – not overly a club record, but hot new Act on Black Butter, has a great vibe to it, I’m sure he’s going to be big.

Roger Sanchez feat Stealth – Remember Me – great new release from Roger and I’m lucky enough to have worked with Stealth – I also have the next single on Rogers label.

Rationale – Fast Lane – again its not a club record, but without a doubt this is modern day Balearic beat, another band to keep your ears and eyes out for!

So all eyes now are on your fourth album ‘Photograph’ which features the new single, last year’s smash ‘Let The Night’ and nine other brand new tracks. “‘We feel like this new album is some of our best work to date,’ you admit, ‘it’s a journey back to our club roots.’ What can you tell us about the new long player…?

We come from the old school of making albums (this being our 4th) , so after finishing the EP we had to get back and make an album.. For this one we we’re aiming more Club / Dance (esq), I’m not saying there’s an album of dancefloor bangers, but they certainly have there foot in the club world…we we’re lucky working again with Carl Ryden & Simon Duffy, but also with Mr Hudson, Matt Woods, Si Hulbert…we’re happy with the way the record turned out, it’s a record you can put on before your going out…and once you’ve got home !!!

When was the last time someone else’s tune stopped you in your tracks because it was so damned good?

Every day. There’s SO much music out there now and so many talented people and producers, this week I’ve been listening to  Sam Sure & Rationale, I could list hundreds….

3 bucket list adventures you wanna do in your lifetime?

I must admit, I’ve been pretty lucky and done a lot of things, but I’ve never been to  Africa/South Africa so a Safari is on the cards…

I’d like to say swim with sharks, but not sure I’m up to that.

Being able to ski a Black Run without stacking it !

Tell us about some of the great clubs you’ve rocked this year?

This year has been all about getting the record ready so we’re now about to get back out on the road, but there was a great party in Sofia recently. Next up we’re off to  play Montauk Beach House for July 4th, that’s a great place – and I’m playing at a special show at Basement in Miami, that’s going to be ALOT of fun.

When was the last time you two had a massive row over music?

To be honest, we’re actually not too bad. After making music together for so long you get to know what works and what doesn’t!

The last GREAT live gig you went to…?

Either Noel Gallagher at the Rivoli Ballroom or The Who in Abu Dhabi – both amazing shows…oh Fleetwood Mac too, they were incredible…

And finally… what else is going on studio wise this year?

We’re working on a D.V Remixed album that should be out after the album and I’ve been working a lot with Lenno, Mr Hudson, Dragonette and many many more…
