DubVision

An incredible year beckons for these brothers in rhythm. Kicking off with their Musical Freedom debut

Interview by Dan Prince

Stephan, Victor a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD, where on planet earth are you right now?

Hey man, thank you for having us again! We are in our home town Den Hague right now, working in the studio on some cool new projects!

The first piece of music you heard this morning after springing out of bed?

Pfff I can’t remember, it was some random song at the gym haha.

A belated Happy New Year to you, let’s get the festivities out of the way first. How was your Christmas, did you receive any crap gifts, where were you playing on New Years Eve and what was the midnight tune?

Our Christmas was pretty chill: Lots of family time and of course a lot of presents! Straight after Christmas we went to Asia for a quick tour. We played at a club called Ztudio in Bangkok, Thailand. The Midnight-tune was a mashup of our own ‘I Found Your Heart’. Was a pretty sick night.

It was of course Black Monday this week, officially the most depressing day of the year. Were you down in the dumps moping about crying woe is me?!??

Nooo! Certainly not. We spend our morning in the gym, like almost every day. After that we went to the studio and start planning our studio session in LA soon where we are going to shoot the video clip of our new track on Wall Records. So actually it was a perfect Monday!

Loved your new press photos shoot and fair play to your thinking of a career to the world of modeling. Are you cool with the whole make up and catwalk work?!?

Haha, thank you. It’s ok, but not for us. We definitely have an interest in fashion. We like to watch shows and see all the new fashion. But we think music fits us better!

It was a sad day for the world of music last week with the passing of the legendary David Bowie. Were you a fan of the great man and his music?

Yess and No. He had some cool music like ‘Modern Love’ and the movie ‘Labyrith’ which was one of Steve’s favorite movies when he was little. We appreciate what he did and what he stood for but we weren’t really fans or anything.

Looking back, do you think 2015 was a good year for dance music?

Yesss, we think so. a lot of changes. We went from very hard EDM to very easy listening tropical house. Obviously it will change soon, like fashion. That makes the industry interesting.

What was your favourite tune and gig of last year?

Sorry – Justin Bieber

Your new tune Sweet Harmony has absolutely smashed it, what is coming out next from you studio wise? You seemed to be very happy last week if that photo of your hairs standing on end is anything to go by!

Hahaha yeah that picture! We are very happy with the result so far on that track. Our first release on Musical Freedom. It’s great to work with Tiësto and his team!

The 90s saw 2 versions of ‘Sweet Harmony’ – The Beloved which had one of the coolest videos ever full of naked models…and Liquid’s huge rave anthem. Were you fans of those tunes?

Well, not really. Victor was still in the cradle at that time. Steve was also still too young I believe. There was a rave period for us both, but after these tunes.

What are the big tunes in your box this weekend, please give us a few words on each…

DubVision – I Found Your Heart -> Because it’s our all time favorite.

DubVision – Sweet Harmony —> Because it’s our latest. And it’s something different from what we usually make.

DubVision – ID (Wall Records) —> Because it’s our first ‘to come” release. Come to our shows and you’ll hear it live.

Not Alone (Blinders Remix) —> It’s just a sick remix. First try this weekend tho, live.

A new year and a DJ diary full of exciting dates stretching ahead of you. Where are some of the gigs you cannot wait for?

Poolparty’s during WMC 2016, Tomorrowland, Ibiza Ushuaia….Oh man there are so many!

An up and coming producer to watch out for this year?

Blinders, for sure.

When was the last time you got your speedos out and had a holiday?

That would be on our mom’s birthday.

What are your plans for Ibiza this summer?

We are planning to rent a house for a long period. So we can work in a different environment. Different climate, lot’s of sun instead of rain. It could work!

And finally. To the thousands of people reading this wishing to follow in the mighty Dubvision’s footsteps…what is the best piece of advice you can offer to all of the aspiring producers out there…?

Never give up, keep on going. Learn to play a real instrument!
