Ferry Corsten

Another Full On summer for the trance superstar. World exclusive

Interview : Dan Prince

Word up Ferry, welcome back to DMCWORLD…where on the planet are you today?

“Hey DMC World I just finished a crazy weekend starting off with a New World Punx  set at Global Gathering in the UK; a full day of playing back to back sets at my Full On area at Tomorrowland and a New World Punx show at Amnesia in Ibiza.”

Tomorrowland! What a party. Give us some of your highlights…

“Tomorrowland was amazing Dan. The first weekend was hot…literally! It’s an honour to have my own Full On stage for both weekends. Highlights of both weekends include my Mainstage performance with Markus Schulz as New World Punx during the rain, my back2back with Adrian Lux and Audien at the Full On stage.”

We also loved your back to back set with Jochen Miller at the event. In fact we loved all of your back to back sets. But, who are some of the DJs that you REALLY loving playing one on one with, who really tests the big man Ferry?

All of the back 2 back sets were absolutely fun. It’s great when you have good sparring partners…All of my guests had a great time and definitely lived up to the task.”

Global Gathering really stepped it up this year, better production, a stronger line up and a real sense that after a few years in the middle ground, Global are now a force to be reckoned with again. Tell us about your New World Punx set with Markus Schulz…

“Global was England at it’s best. I love working with Markus because we just go with the flow and have so much fun. Our mash ups did great over there…particularly Markus’s edit of Capitol Cities’ “Safe and Sound” and my mash up with between Marcel Wood’s “Advance” , Led Zepellin’s “Immigrants”, and Sigma’s “Nobody to Love.”

Another stunning single causing mayhem on dancefloors all over the world, this time it’s ‘Festival Crash’ causing all the madness. Please talk us through the sound of the track, it has quite a history!

“Yes it does. “Festival Crash” is actually an updated version of “Radio Crash” a track found on my Twice In A Blue Moon album. “Radio Crash” has always been a crowd pleaser and the last few months I’ve been getting so many requests from fans to play that again in my sets but the BPM didn’t work with my current style, so I recreated the track to work with my current sets…and please my fans at the same time!”

You travel the world 52 weeks of the year and visit some incredible countries. Who has been the last amazing new DJ/producer you have spotted on your travels…

“Jacob van Hage has been travelling lately and he’s been amazing.”

What are the 5 biggest tunes in your box right now?

1. Ferry Corsten – Festival Crash

2. My mash up with between Marcel Wood’s “Advance” , Led Zepellin’s “Immigrants”, and Sigma’s “Nobody to Love.”

3. Galantis – You (Tom Staar Remix)

4. Markus Schulz – Remember This (Mark Sherry Remix)

5. Patrick Hagenaar – Come Closer

Quite a few photos of your dog Zoe appearing on your Facebook site recently. This dog looks like one pampered pooch!!!??

“She is! if I had to be an animal in the next life I would be her with the life she’s living now.”

As I write these questions for you it’s Monday – the day you ask your fans for track suggestions for your ‘Corsten’s Countdown’ radio show. What is the one classic track that ALWAYS gets requested…and when was the last time an obscure track was suggested that made you think to yourself, ‘wow, I forgot about that great record!’…?

“Almost every week people request some of my classics such as System F – “Out Of The Blue” or one of the tracks I did as Gouryella, but also “Fire” and “Beautiful”, that have been released under my own name. Earlier this year somebody requested Ricky Fobis  “No Regular”, I couldn’t even remember when I heard that one for the last time!”

Another exciting season for you in Ibiza, 2014 has seen you host your Full On party down at Space with the Clandestin crew. What are your thoughts on Ibiza 2014…you are on the Bossa strip where a lot of the major venues are all trying to out do each other and although the numbers are good, it seems to us everyone is cancelling each other out a little…

“We’re really happy to be working with Space and Clandestin for our back to back concept Full On. You are right though that it’s become a tough market for shows there in the summer. On the one hand competition is always good but too much does make it very difficult. I can’t complain about our night though. They have been great actually.”

An interesting poser you asked your fans again last week, you asked them which Ferry Corsten Remix from your production of Art Of Trance, Embrace, Liquid Child, Corderoy and Aven they wanted uploading on your Soundcloud page. Were you surprised by the winner?

“It was a close call between my remix for “Aven” and “Art Of Trance” actually!”

What is the record that…

…reminds you of your childhood?

“Paul Hardcastle – 19.”

…always get you dancing?

“Anything by James Brown.”

…reminds you of being broken hearted?

“My heart doesn’t break…”

…you wish you would have made?

“Swedish House Nafia “Don’t You Worry Child”…those lyrics…”

And finally, what is coming out next from the label and yourself…?

“My upcoming single is finished and should be in promo soon!”
