Julian Jordan

Boom! Buzz Chart No.1 for the Dutch superstar dream team with ‘Rage’ flying out on DOORN

Interview by Dan Prince

Julian a massive welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you right now?

“Right now I’m home for a few days! Going to Italy this weekend but first some time in the studio…”

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning?

“It was ‘Disclosure – When A Fire Starts To Burn’ haha!”

Well young man…what a way to start 2015! A Buzz No.1 already with your super tag team production ‘Rage’ created with Sander van Doorn and Firebeatz. Huge dude, huge. Please talk us through the sound and history of this incredible track…

“We did this bus tour with DOORN Records and it was amazing. We had an idea to build a studio in the bus and make a track together! Hours of traveling and being in so much different cities inspired us so much! That’s how we got the idea and made the track really fast.”

How did you all compliment each other in the studio with your different styles of production? Who would you say brought what to the table?

“It’s very hard to say who did what because we are all working together and bringing in idea’s!”

Does Sander know that you once admitted in an interview that if you ever got a pet kangaroo, you would call it Sander?!!!!?!?!

“Hahahaha I don’t know! I will tell him the next time I see him Dan.”

On the animal tip, a nice photo you posted on Facebook in January of you walking your dog in the woods. I have three dogs and also live in the countryside – gotta say though, they looked like new trainers man! Do you not sell wellies in The Netherlands?

“Hahaha!! Yeah those were my ‘going out’ shoes  I always wear them when it’s raining or when I have to work on the house.  So I still wanna rock sneakers but not worry about how they look at the end haha…”

You started producing at a very young age. These days though it’s not uncommon to see 16 year old producers setting the dancefloors alight with their productions. What are some of the most important things you have learnt in the five or six years in the industry to date?

“That it’s good to create something for yourself that you really like, personally and music wise. If you don’t do what you really love and not support it 100% you Will be unhappy. So try to be yourself and don’t look at music like it’s a competition because it isn’t!”

And with that in mind…a young producer we should be looking out for in 2015?

“I heard some stuff from Curbi on Spinnin’. I really like his stuff. It’s deep house though so I don’t play it live that much. But I can hear he is a very creative producer with awesome ideas!”

As internet sensations go, the DOORN Records tour bus doll Sneeuwpupke seemed to set the world alight last year. Will he be hitting the festivals this summer?

“I hope he doesn’t melt! But I think he will…”

You also had big success with ‘Angels X Demons’ that was used in the Far Cry 4 computer game. Is the world of computers or even film scores something that you’d like to explore more?

“Oh Yeah I really love that world! I wanted to be in the entertainment world when I was younger. So I hope to make some soundtracks for movies one day!”

I cannot be beaten at Pac Man. What is your computer game of choice where no one beats Julian Jordan?

“Crossy Road! I just discovered this app but I love it!! I got the highest score of all my friends haha!”

Another recent post from you…

“For all the producers out there

There is no example of ‘perfect’ in music.

There is no ‘perfect mixdown’ or there aren’t any ‘perfect chords’

Everything is possible and there are no limits.

Creativity is the key.”

…what was that feeling or reason for posting that so early on a January morning?

“Hahah i don’t know I always try to inspire producers because I get inspired from other producers a lot. I see that some people see this ‘EDM sound’ as a recipe but it isn’t. That’s why I think it’s good to support your own music 100% I mean if you as a producer support and like what you do, you’ve succeeded!”

Tell us 3 bucket list adventures you wanna do in your lifetime?

“I did a lot of bucket list things this year! Like cage diving with great white sharks and playing some dope festivals!”

A tune nestling in your set that just won’t go away from last year?

DJ Snake – ‘Turn Down For What’. The tune of 2014 for me!”

Your best and worst Christmas gift you received last year?

“Haha my family doesn’t really celebrate Christmas with gifts. I wasn’t at home at Christmas so I had a Christmas Dinner in the AIRPORT haha!”

Some big club or festival dates in your 2015 diary you want to shout about…

I really can’t say some names yet but I know we are doing the DOORN Records bus tour again! And I’m looking forward to this summer because a lot of big festivals are being rocked…”

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

“First: ‘Rage’ the track with Firebeatz and Sander and after that one I’m releasing ‘The Takedown’ – I’m really proud of this track because it goes ham everywhere I play it!”
