Promise Land

The dynamic duo from Rome do it again. ‘Memories Will Fade’ dropping on Smash The House

Interview : Dan Prince

Nazario, Fabio welcome to DMCWORLD…where on Planet Earth are you today?

“Hey Dan. In Rome, in our studio…”

A massive new release swinging our way from you guys, please talk us through the sound and history of your Yves V collab ‘Memories Will Fade’ that features the vocal talents of Mitch Thompson…

“M.W.F. will be soon released on the label Smash the House .We have done a demo with some piano chords that we particularly liked, and after discussing it with our manager Tony, we decided to send him to Australia to find a vocalist. We received several demos, but the one with Mitch Thompson really stood out to us particularly for the melody of the vocal track. We then met in our studio with Yves V and listened to different demos and decided that this was the one to work for our collab.”

One of your musical influences along with U2, Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers is Coldplay. Now dudes, do you think Chris Martin going out with hottie Jennifer Lawrence is going to make their music more cheerful?

“The last Coldplay album wasn’t appreciated by many, but we personally found it very interesting! We hope that J.L will contribute in a positive way.”

What are the 5 big records in your box this weekend…

1)    Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars (Promise Land Bootleg). This bootleg gives us great satisfaction when we play it, it’s a great balance between the melody and drop.

2)    Mak J M35 – Go. We just love the drop and the sound of this track!

3)    Promise Land – Rulez (Re-edit 2014). This is still present in all of our sets, with a re-edit for 2014 created by us that was performed for the first time in Tomorrowland. We love this new edit.

4)    Arno Cost & Norman Doray – Apocalypse 2014 (Kryder & Tom Staar Remix). The Synth led in this record is the master.

5)    Don Diablo – Anytime. We have loved this from the very first listen, it’s different from all the others.

We love your ‘Demo Of The Week’ segment on your Amazing Show seeking out the best piece of new music, mash up or bootleg. What is the best ever you have received?

“We reserve the right not to answer this one!! There are several guys who have real perseverance and they send us very interesting things, and we try to reward everyone ‘where possible’.”

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. How did you first meet and when did the idea of a production/DJing partnership happen?

We met at school and our passion for music brought us together. We never thought or planned what we would be or what was going to happen, everything started as a game, especially if you start at a very young age. Today this is our job.”

You used to play at school parties and bars…what was the style of music back then?

“When we started EDM did not exist. Erick Morillo was our inspiration, even if the “Italo dance” sound reigned in Italy and all over Europe / World.”

Best and worst thing about living in Rome?

“Rome has a special charm tied to the history and all of its monuments, but traffic and chaos can ruin the magic.”

It’s that time of year again, the annual DJ Top100. I interviewed Arthur Baker last week, he remarked…“there are too many DJs and genres for a realistic competition, it needs to split”. What are your thoughts on that, does the competition mean anything to you?

“The world of DJs and producers is a competitive one, as we all want to be more skilled, paid, respected etc. than our colleagues, each producer is looking for that hit record that changes their career. What we’ve noticed the most is that it seems that today’s music has little importance, everything passes by very quickly and doesn’t always allow time to enjoy a track that after 2 months is already trashed. We do not think is a positive thing.”

Tomorrowland – best memory from this year’s event?

“When we got into the console and had the possibility to transmit entertainment to people through our music.”

Tell us about your studio set up…

“MAC PRO, KRK V8, Genelec,Virus [T], MiniMoog, Nord Lead 3, Compressor Drawmer, Big Knob…

It’s your birthday – the 3 DJs you invite to play…

“Erick Morillo, Axwell and Steve Angello.”

Where is the strangest place you have heard your remix of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’?

“In a pub.”

What is the record that…

…reminds you of your childhood?

Puff Daddy’s – I’ll Be Missing You

…always get you dancing?

Daft Punk – One More Time / Around the World

…reminds you of being broken hearted?

Coldplay – Fix You

…you wish you would have made?

Daft Punk – One More Time

You have had a monumental 2014 with your own releases, remixes and collabs. Let’s skip 12 months forward…what do you want to have achieved this time next year?

“To have made music that is higher in quality, we want to focus more on quality rather than quantity.”

A recent quote from a certain superstar DJ…“I believe true DJing is actually an art, but it’s a dying art, as everyone is pushing the sync button…it’s a real shame when you see a ‘DJ’ plug his laptop in and call this DJing. Music will always evolve but sometimes not in the best way.” What are your thoughts on that?

“Everyone classifies themselves as a DJ or producer but today if you don’t have your own music you don’t even have the chance to play in clubs. Today if you make a record and succeed you are a Dj, computer or sync are useful to those people who become DJs for market demand. Our opinion is that when you get in console you must work hard and put the same effort as when you are in the studio, it’s not enough to just wear a pair of headphones and press a button.”

And finally, what is coming out next from you release wise after ‘Memories Will Fade’…

“At the moment we have a lot of new music ready, after M.W.F we’ll decide what track will be our next single.”
