Simone Vitullo

Good Karma hitting Electric Brixton with a stunning line up

Interview by Simon Tillotson

Making a rare appearance on UK soil at Karma’s inaugural event at Electric Brixton on the 8th May, alongside Deeperfect’s Stefano Noferini, Matt Sassari and London favourite, Vanilla Ace – Simone Vitullo sits down with us to chat all things Ibiza, clubbing in Italy and where to find the positivity in dance music…

Hi Simone – we’re well into 2015 now, has it been a busy year so far for you?

Oh yes…The beginning of the year has been very busy, many releases and great gigs in Europe and the US! My release in January on Off Recordings – Cracks EP – was very successful and so of course that led to several production jobs and many parties around the world.

You’ve got some incredible accolades to your career – which part stands out as the biggest success for you so far?

At the moment, in order of importance:

Simone Vitullo – “Passionately” (#1 on the Beatport Deep House chart)

Simone Vitullo & Do Santos – “My Bassline Friend” (#1 on the Beatport Tech House chart)

Simone Vitullo – “Cracks” (#3 on the Beatport Tech House chart)

You’re making a rare appearance in the UK to play alongside Stefano Noferini, Matt Sassari and Vanilla Ace at electric Brixton on the 8th May – what can we expect from your set?

Surely I will play something new, lately my sound is moving toward techno/deep and tech house style….A very special sound that is contaminated by these 3 musical genres and that really excites me right now.

How does the UK electronic music scene compare to the scene back home in Italy?

It’s very very very different! In UK clubs you can meet people who know and love the music they are listening to, so they know who the DJ in the club is at that moment…They know the style and the music of that event; in Italy this rarely happens because Italian people tend to go in trendy clubs, not for the music but for the club because it is cool at that time… I think that in Italy there is a different view about clubs or discos…about the fun that is! So DJing in the UK has got a great responsibility and the vibe is more underground and cool!

You’re playing at ‘Karma’ when you’re in London – dance music by its very nature grew with a lot of positivity on the scene, does it seem to you that dance music at the moment is full of good karma still?

Of course….I think that the positivity and good Karma was there from the beginning and will be always be there, even if they are influenced by the society in which we live… But the music is freeing and a fantastic cure for everything!

Summer is on its way – will you be heading out to Ibiza this year?

Ibiza will be my second home for this summer – I’m planning some party really cool every week so…….stay tuned about it.

Why do you think Ibiza still holds such an important place in the world of dance music? Do you think that places like Croatia could ever steal its crown?

Oh yeah... Ibiza is a very important point of reference for dance music! This is a magical place for the music and I think that this is the number one place in the world of dance music right now!

And finally, what else can we expect to see form you this year? Any new music in the pipeline?

This year will be busy and productive because I will go on my three labels – Go Deeva Records, Go Deeva Light Records and Basica Recordings, and then there will be some parties around the world for the GO DEEVA SHOWCASE! I’m working for a new EP on OFF Recordings, Moodmusic, Suara and a few other labels….so follow me and I’m sure you will not be disappointed…..see ya in London!
