Greg Lord gets ready for 12 weeks of chaos at one of the best clubs in the world
For twelve weeks – the city is their’s…
Warehouse Project returns to Store Street for another twelve week series beneath the streets of Manchester
For many, this is the spiritual home of The Warehouse Project…the place where WHP cut it’s teeth
For those who never witnessed it, this is your opportunity
For those who were there first time round…you know what’s coming…
Interview by Dan Prince
Greg welcome to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?
“A£20 Travelodge in Cannock Dan. Yesterday at a villa in Ibiza…yings and yangs of being a resident DJ working full time in engineering.”
Your memories of your first trip to The Warehouse Project…
“I went to one of the first shows when it was at Boddingtons Brewery, I was still playing for Sankeys at the time, this show didn’t really have the same effect as the first time I walked into Store Street. I knew something special was bubbling then!”
The track you can remember from your first DJ set at Warehouse Project
“Pepe Bradock – ‘Deep Burnt’ – one of the most timeless pieces of electronica ever created, they can play this record at my funeral.”
Warehouse Project is one of the biggest clubs in the world because…
“Is it?? Sounds very Paris Hilton.”
The greatest DJ set you have ever witnessed at Warehouse Project.
“Laurent Garnier at his 25 year anniversary sticks out, he’s got a rich history with Manchester and his music resonates with the sound of the city and the WHP, he played all night spanning music across the decades, Sunday night as well so only the faithful really made the effort.”
The 1 tune that always reminds you of The Warehouse Project
“Roland Apparel – ‘Unforgiven’ – probably the record I’ve played every year of my residency, to best effect before Sasha after a long 3hr warm up, proper postive acid house belter!”
From a DJ’s point of view, are there more nerves before a set at this club compared to DJing anywhere else?
“No, quite the opposite at WHP, kind of know the drill there whatever the occasion. I got the opportunity to play Sub Culture at the Sub Club in Glasgow last month, I’d say I’ve been working towards these types of gigs for the last 15 years, everything about Sub Culture, the Sub Club and the residents Harri and Dom is what I like about being in this scene. True underground pioneers that stick to their principles and avoid all bullshit. I was genuinely bricking it beforehand but we nailed that one, my favourite gig so far, to the fair the nerves usually go away after the first record.”
The big 10 tunes in your box this weekend…
“I’m nowhere near my record box or digital folders so I’ll just tell you that I’m really loving the new Aphex Twin single, that can be looped ten times and you’d still not make a better top ten. Fout Tet releases are bought and played every time. Red Rack’em – I’ve Got Something On Mind pretty much sums up my style right now.”
Your next release…
“Usually about 7.30am each morning.”
Your 3 best gigs of the summer…
“Sub Club Glasgow, We Love, Space Ibiza, Secret Solstice in Iceland (the last two more for the road trip).”
An up and coming producer to watch out for in 2015…
“Ste Spandex from Manchester.”
The festival moment of 2014…
“Blue Lagoon in Iceland, caked up.”
We come back to yours after the club…your Back To Mine Top 5…
“It’s never back to mine anymore with the wife and baby at home. But I live in Manchester where everyone is very capable of out balearic’ing each other, I just leave them to it!”
And finally – sum up The Warehouse Project in one sentence
“Going to take an interesting turn.”
