Festivals 2010
Yousef

Mr Flying Circus

A very large couple of months for you, a big Miami and then your night Circus in Liverpool live on Radio 1 for their 500th Essential Mix with Sasha, Hawtin, Tong and Aeroplane – what were your highlights from both of them?
“Yes I’ve had a good start to 2010. Miami was fun, as usual more social that real work but it was good to get more of my music out there. My releases on Cocoon, Saved and Renaissance and remixes for Moby, Teva and Sven Vath were all well received. The radio party actually felt like our birthday party or rather the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve, every minute from 10pm to 6am. The best event we have ever ‘gotten away with! All happening in a 1100 capacity club and live on Radio One was it’s own highlight. A special shout to Hawtin though, literally unreal!”

Another huge Creamfields swinging our way – what should a Creamfields virgin check out on the site, what little secrets are there and where will we find you supping an ale?
As always, it gets better and better each year. The festival really does move forward year after year. A Creamfields virgin should just come and hang out, and see where the mood takes them. Everyone is friendly and fun and up for it. I will be hanging out in the Cocoon tent where I will be playing.”

What is the best festival you have ever played at?
“EXIT in Serbia from a gig point of view. It is literally ridiculous.

And the worst?
“Zoo in Kent UK. Not a good day out.”

What are the essential festival survival items in your man bag that you always take with you?
“Cash only! A mobile phone, a spare battery if possible, a pair of shades – and an address label of where you live…”

What are going to be your big festivals of 2010?
“UAF in Austria and Global Gathering in Poland both on June 5th. I’m looking forward to doing two festivals in two countries on one day, this is a first for me and I’ve played neither of them before. Also Glade festival in the UK which is a real underground specialist music festival, the Seiseng festival in Kent, Global Gathering and then Creamfields in Liverpool.”

Where is the most beautiful festival setting you have ever played?
“Even though Ive played all over the world, I have to say the first time I played Creamfields in Liverpool on the Radio 1 Main Stage playing to 15,000 people while the sun is setting was still one of my finest moments…”

Why does Creamfields stand head and shoulders above it’s UK rivals?
“The team behind booking the line up is second to none, its really creative. Between them they strive to offer a relentless onslaught of killer line ups. That coupled with the north west hopsitality, it really is hard to beat. And in its 11th year, the tweeking has been done, its an excellent festival.”

Where does everyone head off to afterwards?
“Rileys or Vogan Avenue…(thats just me!) most people are partied out after two days.”

Does playing in say, Asia or the Eastern European countries differ from UK festivals?
“Yes, the are sadly not as organised. The UK festivals run a very tight ship. Zouk Out in Singapore is the exception. They are on the money too.”

Who are you looking to seeing at Creamfields this year?
“Plastikman I think. I’m curious to see how it will transend into a festival.”

What is the one record that will not be leaving your box this summer?
“Teva – ‘You Cant Teach This (Yousef Circus rework) on ALIVE records. It’ as  big festival track that can also hold its own in the underground.”

And finally, what’s next for your night Circus?
“The first time in Liverpool for Meganite!”
