DJ Fabulous…

WHAT IS THE BEST FESTIVAL YOU HAVE EVER PLAYED AT?

“The Global Gathering festivals in Australia were my favorite for sure because it featured Krafterwerk. I used to take Florian from KraftWerk shopping in NYC so it was great to reconnect. Plus the Australians are crazy!!”

WORST EVER FESTIVAL MOMENT?

“When I did Mysteryland last year in the Netherlands, it was so big I couldn’t remember how to get back to the tent I was in…I thought I would have a breakdown when I was told I was on the other end of the planet seemingly right before my set.”

WHERE IS THE BEST FESTIVAL YOU HAVE EVER PARTIED AT?

“When I did Benicassim in Spain with all my electroclash era friends like Peaches, Fischerspooner, The Glimmers and Erol Alkan were there so the backstage was lively to say the least. I stayed the whole weekend to be able to catch Nick Cave and The Cure, two acts I had never had the pleasure to meet. Hanging with Rufus Wainwright, the Long Blondes and the Chemical Brothers at the Summercase in Spain was also pretty fabulous…but being clean for 12 years, partying doesn’t mean the same thing to me as it might for other artists…”

YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL STORY?

“Fischerpooner when they had the dancers and did my electrolcash festivals, used to make me cry they were so exciting. Bleeding, exploding, and caught in a wind tunnel…Gaga learnt a lot from them.”

WHERE CAN WE CATCH YOU THIS SUMMER?

“The Alcatraz Festival in the Netherlands and La Batie in Geneva are the two I am doing that are confirmed so far…but several more are on hold…”

WEIRDEST OUTFIT YOU HAVE EVER WORN/SEEN/WOKE UP IN?

“I took Andre Bartenev, the Russian Perfomance artist to see Daft Punk at a Coney Island Festival once dressed as a dancing yellow disco ball and everyone in the crowd had to have a photo taken with him…he never said NO once.”

FAVOURITE ‘CAMPING’ MOMENT?

“I dont camp – hehehehehe. I’m a city boy…”

WHAT ARE YOUR FESTIVAL TIPS?

“Pick out the acts you absolutely have to see and leave the rest up to spontaneity And bring some backup toilet paper just in case.”

NO.1 FESTIVAL EVER?

“Oh, god. Since I am new to the festival circuit, I would have to say Coachella in LA. They always have a killer dance tent and a to-die-for headliner. But the Global Gathering one’s always kick butt.”

WHAT’S THE MOST UNUSUAL FESTIVAL SETTING YOU’VE BEEN TO?

“When I did my electrolcash festivals which were done at venues all over NYC. Once we used a Polish Concert Hall in Greenpoint (years before it became the cool part of Brookyln). They were selling polish sausages and pirrogis as the food concessions. The owners got REALLY mad when one of the acts unleashed a torrent of feathers on the crowd and the club…we had to pay extra for the club as a cleaning fee and I suspect they are still trying to get those damn feathers out of every corner.”

WHAT 1 RECORD SEND SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE WHEN YOU HEAR IT AND INSTANTLY REMINDS YOU OF ONE OF THOSE ‘FESTIVAL MOMENTS?

“Whenever I hear Rufus Wainwright’s version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, I still get chills. I remember the Summercase tour I did with him and his piano and his sister harmonizing. Oooooh, goosebumps!”
