Ferry Corsten

Two huge remixes smashing up dancefloors all around the world

Welcome back to DMCWORLD Ferry – wow what a weekend you have just enjoyed! Tomorrowland and Global Gathering UK. Tell us all about the weekend, some of the highlights, the big tunes, some of the funny moments…

“This weekend was really amazing. The crowd at both gigs were great and it really felt good playing at both festivals. Tomorrowland was really special because the unreal production and detail. My high light of that day was when I asked the crowd at Tomorrowland to raise their flags and everyone did it. There were so many nationalities there. It really felt like playing to the world.”

Why is Tomorrowland the biggest festival in the world? Why is it so good?

“They have been spot on with their production and decoration. It’s like Disneyland on steroids.  Tomorrowland has been building up their brand name for quite some years now and most of my colleagues I speak to mention Tomorrowland. I guess it is just the place to be for both the DJ’s and the fans.”

Well it’s fair to say that you have done it again. The Buzz Chart office has been like a mad disco recently thanks to your remix of Snow Patrol’s ‘New York’ – talk us through this brilliant rework, how did you set about creating this piece of magic?

“Well we bought tickets for the Snow Patrol concert in my hometown Rotterdam a while ago. I was able to meet the band after their show and I simply asked them if they would be okay for me to do a remix of New York. They loved the remix and passed it over to the label. I am uncertain what their plan is, but people have been asking me about it so a few fellow DJs are hammering it out as well.”

So it’s safe to say that you a fan of Snow Patrol!!

“Yes! Their songs are amazing and are well crafted and produced. I love their rock meets electronic approach.”

The other track about to smash the chart this week is your remake of Jens’ classic ‘Loops & Tings with Markus Schulz. This track has been buzzing for months waiting for a release. Tell us about the remix and the plans for release…

“Actually  it just has been released. Markus and I were talking about classic house tracks and when Loops & Tings came up we knew we had to give it a go in a rework. We set a date in my studio and had some fun with it. The spontaneous factor in the re-work / remix makes the track work I think.”

You were on your Facebook site this morning asking your fans for their choices for the Corsten’s Countdown segment. What are some of the tracks that have been the most popular this summer?

“Aeon Of Revenge” by Andrew Rayel has been voted in the Top 3 for over 7 weeks already, plus the track “One Thousand Suns” from Chicane and myself has been in the Top 3 a lot as well, so for Corsten’s Countdown, those tracks have been the most popular in the last few weeks.”

You also asked for some suggestions for the Listeners Choice section which can be a new track or a golden oldie. What are the tracks from yesteryear that are voted week in week out?

“
I get lots of requests to play tracks from myself such as “Fire”, “Made Of Love”, Radio Crash” etc, but I don’t want to play my own tracks each week, haha! But of course I get requests for other classics a lot as well. I really like to play some “forgotten” tracks in the show as well as Listener’s Choice.
It is great to see all the feedback coming in when I ask on Twitter / Facebook what people want to hear in the Corsten’s Countdown episode of that week.”

What is the current big tunes you are spinning?

”In my current DJ sets, I’m playing “Not Coming Down” a lot. It’s a big room track from my album WKND with the beautiful vocals of Betsie Larkin that works great in both the clubs and at the festivals. For the rest people can expect some other tracks from my latest album WKND as well as some new material. And every now and then a nice classic as well of course! But right now Ummet Ozcan’s ‘The Box’, Tiesto & Showtek’s ‘Hell Yeah’ and Festen’s ‘Wassup Vegas’ are some of the heavy hitters in my set.”

How has Ibiza been for you this year?

“Ibiza has been great. We’re back with Full On Ferry and this year we teamed up with Judgement Sunday in Eden for this. Last year we invested big time in building the Full On brand and we can definitely see that the hard work has been paying off. The crowd is amazing and fun and that is exactly what i want to see.”

What about other shows around the world recently?

“It is hard to just pick one favourite show. The shows of last weekend were really amazing. But then there’s Global Gathering in Kiev a few weeks ago where the crowd went so hard in the pouring rain that it has to be one of my faves this summer. And of course the Full On Ferry shows in Eden, Ibiza.”

Have you noticed any changes over in America as the year has progressed. Any signs of the EDM bubble bursting over there?

“EDM in America has been really booming the last years and it amazes me every time I’m there how excited and outgoing the crowd is. I do get the feeling however, that all DJs are playing the same stuff over there which is a bit scary if you ask me. And when club promoters start asking the DJs they book to play more vocal and commercial stuff or leave the club, doesn’t look healthy either to be honest. We will see, fingers crossed.”

What has been your anthem of the summer?

“That has to be “Not Coming Down” by Betsie Larkin and myself!”

What are your plans for ADE 2012?

“Last year we celebrated my 20th year as a DJ and producer during ADE which I really enjoyed. This year we will be doing something special again. I will be hosting my own Full On party. For all the latest information about this make sure to check out www.fullonferry.com.”

What are the next studio releases swinging our way?

“I’m currently working on a couple of major remixes. I have a few new ideas waiting to be finished that are totally dance floor destroyers and I’m working on new stuff for my next album.”
