Kenny Glasgow

Thoroughly enjoying the solo life after Art Department and totally rocked Circoloco in Ibiza

Interview by Dan Prince

Hey Kenny welcome to DMCWORLD…are you right now?

Hello DMCWORLD currently I am at home in my studio after doing two shows in Mexico  City and Acapulco…

The first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?

The first piece of music I listened to when I woke up this morning in Acapulco is a song called “Thinking To Myself” that I am working on for my solo album.

We were down the front on Monday for some more Circoloco madness in Ibiza, how was the party for you?

Circo Loco was pretty rockin’, but to be honest with you, I don’t think I’ve ever been to Circoloco that hasn’t been off the hook.

Tune of the party?

It’s hard to pick a tune of the night when so many great ones are played through out the whole day and night. This is what makes people stay and come back for more week after week after week…you get the picture?

What are some of the main factors that keep Circoloco one step ahead of the rest?

Circoloco is and has been from day one, an institute for DJs, at a certain level, to play as deep as dark as hard and funky as they can, and have an audience ready and loving and waiting in anticipation for the next song/track. It’s really not for the weak and you have to always come with your A game every time you play there cause if not…may be your last hahahahahaha

So it’s been three months since you broke the news that you were leaving Art Department after 5 years and 2 albums together. It’s for the solo career yet again! Everything cool?

I wanted to take a different direction with my music and thought that now was the time to do it. Jonny agreed we came to and agreement, equipped with contracts of course lol and the rest is history. We’re still brothers and will continue to work together on several different music related projects, including the big one, my solo album, which will be released later this year on No19

What is the latest with the new album, your follow up to ‘Taste For The Low Life’. What can you tell us about the content?

The solo album will contain songs/track both in the deep hose and techno genre. It is being recorded in my Toronto studio where my favourite pieces of kit are as well as my wife and family.

And the nice little reunion in Chicago…?

Yeah Chicago was real good fun especially the after party. It was good playing with Jonny again but I’m not gonna lie, and we both said it, we’re loving the solo thing lol. One of the most things I miss is traveling with Mr White, having someone to talk to on all those long and tiring flights. Someone who knows you like a brother and can listen and give proper advice knowing the person I am…and that’s what I look forward to with our few up coming festival gigs. I would like to say thanks for having me and see you soon on some Monday on the DC10 dance floor.

Coda must have been quite a night, the first time back on home turf since the AD split…how did it go?

Coda – the night of my return! lol was quite electric. The people that came out that night were faces I hadn’t seen in a very long time. Friends and old school party people mixed with the new school party kids created a very intense yet energetic vibe the whole night. I had an awesome time to say the least.
