Ibiza 2012 Special

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“Opening up on the Space Terrace for Kehakuma. When I first visited the club aged 18 it was my dream to play there, and I managed to fulfil that this year.”

Tune of the summer?

“So many to list but if I had to pick one it would be Dachshund & Quenum’s ‘The Mammoth’.”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“Probably Appolonia – ‘Close To The Edge’, but it is a banger.”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“Elio Riso.”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“It’s one of the best party locations that has it all. Great clubs – small and big with fantastic production and attention to detail along with music across the spectrum to please all partygoers. Also the beautiful beaches and warm weather help too.”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“Like I said in my previous answer, there is a whole spectrum of people who visit the island. Recently it has grown in the commercial side but I think it’s a good thing. I’m not particularly into it and some people are funny about it, but I say let people enjoy what they like and if someone can deliver a performance and make their target audience happy let them do it, like with the underground. They’re not hurting us when you think about it, and it introduces people to our music.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?

“I think El Row at Privilege has done really well. I got to play for them back in July and it was a real party. A great crowd which was really energetic and created a real cool vibe, fun clubbing.”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

“My favourite restaurant is Il Giardinetto in Botafoch Marina. Me and my mates always go here each trip without a doubt. Beach wise I like Talamanca as I usually stay in the area. It’s nice and chilled but has restaurants nearby and it’s located in a good part of the island, not too close and not too far from everything.”

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“I think it was great to add a festival to Ibiza, but without something like this its not that bad, the island still has more than enough venues and parties.”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“Larry Heard presents Mr White – ‘The Sun Can’t Compare’.”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“Space ibiza. It has a nice balance to it with the Terraces and darker Discoteca, and the car park looks great on opening and closing.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“One big improvement i noticed was around 2006/7 when the road system was upgraded, I think that made a massive difference.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dance floor?

“Probably Italians.”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“I’ve been really digging the music that Geeeman has been putting out. Very original, a real raw feel to it.”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“It would have to be someone old skool to the island like a club owner who could show me some cool spots and share some great stories.”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“I’ve gone to Ibiza on a couple of family holidays, but the earliest one I can remember was from a couple of years ago. We were all staying at the Pacha hotel and I remember going to see Deep Dish spin one night then see Nic the next. We went down to have a drink at Mambos which has always got to be done on each trip.”
