Miguel Verdolva

‘O Superman’ – creating mayhem all over the world

Interview : Dan Prince

Hey Miguel, welcome to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you right now?

“Hello Dan, honoured to hvae your interview! Now I am in Sorrento, I’m very busy in the studio and am working on my new single and remixes.”

You have had the Buzz Chart office jumping around these last few weeks thanks to your outstanding ‘O Superman’ tune, tell us about the track and the deep meaning of the vocals…

“One rainy night we were in the studio me and my cousin Gio Di Leva (well known EDM DJ/Producer). I remembered Laurie Anderson’s song of 1981. The strong rain and the mood of the song immediately gave us a strong emotion. Regarding it’s TRUE meaning, O Superman was born as an anti-war anthem and spoke in an almost prophetic of American planes with an unknown journey…creepy…saw what happened on September 11, twenty years after.”

Did you know on completion you had created something every special with the track?

“I am a person who puts a lot into question especially on musical productions…to be honest I never expected all this success. Although the song has a strong emotional charge.”

Your career started at the infamous The Club in Naples, a unique venue located in an old cave. What memories does that club still give you…?

“I have wonderful memories of my childhood at the club. Fortunately, at that time there were only vinyl in clubs, I always loved the true analog sound.”

Some of your major influences were DJs such as David Morales, Little Louie Vega and Todd Terry…what was it about these guys in particular that impressed you?

“I consider them the pioneers of house music, and have always been a source of inspiration for their sound and their inimitable technique.”

Tell us about your studio set up…

2011 saw you join the Pump Up Studio family in the development of the Artistica Records project. What does 2014 have in store for the label…

“Artistica Records is a label created in collaboration with Gio Di Leva & Joseph Abruzzi. Now we are working in various productions and remixes, thanks also to the support of Gianni Romano, well-known DJ Producers. The label will be launched in late 2014.”

As well having a deep rooted love of house music, you also love classical music. At what age did you start to fall in love with this genre of music and was it a family member who introduced to these sounds…?

“Good question. Indeed it is true, my family listened to classical music. I vaguely remember when I was very young, my mother and my grandmother often made me listen to compositions by Bizet, Offenbach and many others. Today I love Giovanni Allevi e Ludovico Enaudi.”

Who are some of the young and up n’coming producers from Italy we should be looking out for in 2014?

“I suggest three profiles we will hear soon: Francesco Rossi, Joseph Abruzzi, Dee Frans and Matta Clan.”

What is coming next from you studio wise…?

“Actually I’m working on my new single with Dee Frans with whom I made ‘O Superman’. Many ideas boiling in the pot.”

Interesting that you only joined Facebook in December 2013, is it something you have stayed away from on purpose?

“I do not like social networks, but they are a great tool to spread my music around the world.”

And finally got to ask, if the world needs a Superman to save the earth through the music, who has been your superhero that has influenced your career the most?

“Undoubtedly the meastro Little Louie Vega…”
