The Cube Guys

We check in with two of Italy’s most important producers, Roberto Intrallazzi and Luca Provera

Interview : Dan Prince

Luca, Roberto welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you right now?

“Hometown! Italy! We are planning a lot of new steps and finishing tracks for the next WMC, we are very busy in the studio as every year in this period.”

Well what can we say about your latest production, La Vérité – you have absolutely smashed it yet again! Tiesto “Oh yes I LOVE IT!”, Bob Sinclar “I love it” – all the big guys are all over it. Talk us through the history of the tune, did you know you had created something very special on completion?

“Our challenge is to find always something very original and crossover. We feel that modern club music could be inspired by so many different generes and that’s a good point. House music was born mixing different music cultures and thinking with this phylosophy keep our minds open wide to sperimentation and sometimes…craziness.”

As you said, WMC is just around the corner, where can we catch you this year in Miami?

“We have a very wide bunch of parties planned, we’ll play at Nikki Beach the 22nd, Miami Massive on 25th, Island Sessions Boat Party the 26th, IDMA’s on 27th, Lokura the 29th and our main party ‘La Banda’ at Theraphy Club on 29th night!”

What is your favourite f**cked up Miami story?

“Last year, in line to get into the IDMA Awards, we stayed just beside Nile Rodgers when he was pushed back by one of the ‘Big’ Dutch DJs (we cannot mention) to get into the door before anybody in the line. He also didn’t ask ‘sorry’ to one of music Gods on the planet.”

Have you prepared any secret bombs to drop in Miami, any new tunes that are ready to explode?

“Our main bombs are already tested for the WMC, most of all will see the light on our main label Cube Recordings. ‘La Vèritè’ will be for sure the track that we’ll drop everywhere we go, it’s our new musical ID, the track that we really enjoy ourselves!”

Who are some the DJs you are looking forward to partying with in Florida – who is a real laugh to be with?

“Hector Romero is one of most enjoyable guys to meet, he’s are really funny, friendly and serious at the same time, we feel enjoyable to share party moments and music feelings together. We also can’t wait to meet cube’s friend like Prok & Fitch, Mark Knight and Bob Sinclar to name a few!”

You are nominated again for success in the IDMA…man that is one looooong award ceremony!!! Will you be in attendance this year?

“Yes we are! It’s always cool to be nominated at the IDMA’s, the great thing is that this year our track with Barbara Tucker ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ is nominated in the same category featuring as Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ and Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’.”

Where can we see you in Ibiza this summer?

“Our main manager Carlos Calico is working hard at the moment re our Ibiza plans, we cannot discover our cards here, but there will some great news very soon!”

Who excels in what department in the studio? Who is great at what when making a record?

“We both complete ourself in the studio, we are 50/50 in everything, from main ideas to arranging and mixing. One of our main characteristics is to put ‘in the studio’ different ways of produce music. We can start from an easy drum loop or a basic sample, and like a tennis match we build ideas and stuff on it one by one.”

Away from dance music, who are some of the artists you are listening to at the moment?

“We love to listen to a wide range of producers and artists in general, our ears needs to stay fresh, updated and sometimes strictly connected to the roots of modern electronic music. We really like to mention Chris Jylkke, he’s a great music selector and we really love his ‘Mixtapes’.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

What advice can you offer to the thousands of aspiring producerts reading this…

“Keep your foots on ground, and listen so much different music as you can. Don’t get satisified, explore new strange generes and artists.”

Where have some of the stand out gigs been in 2014 already for you?

“2014 is just begun but we have great gigs in our portfolio, Nikki Beach (Miami), Sotto (Ottawa), Cesar Palace (Lyon), Club Loft (Belgrade), Symbol (Budapest), Who’s (Casablanca) and of course our Italian residencies at Bolgia Club and Setai Club.”

And finally, where are the big festivals you cannot wait for this year?

“Our last experience at Dance Valley was amazing! We really looking forward to be there once again!”
