Cortese have been releasing on Last Night on Earth since 2024, and the pair remain at the forefront of the melodic house vanguard. Their sound draws on breaks, house, and garage and comes on their own Plaza Recordings, often with high-profile support from radio tastemakers and club DJs alike. As they return to LNOE with a hot collaboration with Sasha on ‘U Disappear’, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Cortese.
James:
Djrum – Showreel, Pt.2
Djrum is probably my top DJ in the world, and his production, being an extension of his sets, really comes through in this track. I’ve often thought that this is my favourite track of all time.
Jamie Woon – Wayfaring Stranger (Burial Mix)
This remix came out in the same year as the masterpiece that is Untrue, and it’s arguably as good as, if not better than, much of the album. A criminally underrated track from the artist that got me into electronic music at 12 years old.
Bladee – Egobaby
For the past seven years or so in a row, Bladee has been my number one Spotify Wrapped artist. There’s something particularly ethereal about his delivery on this magic Lusi production, and the music video is stunning too.
Fontaines D.C. – It’s Amazing To Be Young
The Romance album from Fontaines D.C. was pretty strong, but this follow-up single is the one. It’s a beautiful guitar riff and vocal performance, and will probably be heard in pubs around the country for many years.
Bibio – Phantom Brickworks V
Most of the time I’m at home, I’m listening to ambient/neo-classical music, and this record is the ultimate combination of both of those genres. It’s soothing, reflective, and hypnotic all at once, which I find in most of Bibio’s work.
Bryn:
Frits Wentink – Dwayne Young
Frits Wentink is probably one of the most prolific artists out there, and the quality of everything he releases is top-notch. This one came out like 10 years ago, before he really started focusing on his other alias, Yaleesa Hall. This one never fails to put a smile on my face.
Jump Source – Get It Done (Ft. Frankie Teardrop)
Jump Source have been grabbing my attention lately, they’ve only put out like 6 EP’s since 2016, but every one of them has been quality. The hook from this one has been stuck in my head since it came out last year.
Woesum & Oklou – Empty Lightning
Oklou seems to be everywhere at the moment, collabing with Charli xcx and Pink Pantheress. She’s got such an ear for melody and harmony. This one is one of my favourites from her. Woesum’s production makes this track soar.
Aphex Twin – Didgeridoo
Whenever I’m pushing on the bike, I put on some of Aphex Twin’s older, noisier work. Didgeridoo being one example. The production is timeless. I don’t know how he made some of the sounds on this with the equipment available to him in 1992, but it’s inspiring.
Two Shell – Unrequited
Two Shell have been on a strange trajectory recently, but I keep coming back to this one. It feels sincere. It’s my favourite tune of theirs and changed how I go about making music; it’s a big inspiration.
Sasha & Cortese’s ‘U Disappear’ is out now on Last Night on Earth.
