The opera never sounded so good! The Stockholm superstar and his anthem of Miami

Interview : Dan Prince

Welcome to DMCWORLD dude. A nice way to start your weekend on Friday with Pete Tong opening his show with ‘Liceu’. The track has been rocking dancefloors since Steve Angello dropped it in Miami…did you know you had created a monster on completing the track?

“Of course whenever you’re making music in the studio you hope the tracks are going to be big, but with ‘Liceu’ we could definitely tell it felt different, the whole vibe and as soon as we played it to people we knew it was going to be phat.”

Tell us about Miami for you, what were the highlights for you – other than the free shades from Le Specs!

“Miami was great this year. I got to hang out and meet a lot of people, particularly with the Size guys which was great. A definite highlight for me was playing at People of The Night for AN21 and Max Vangeli at Space. The terrace is an amazing room, and wicked soundsystem!”

You were DJing in Gothenburg on Saturday at Tragarn, how is the Swedish club scene doing in 2013, it seems all of it’s home grown superstars are always playing elsewhere around the world…?

“The club scene has become much better then few years back thanks to all the great producers from Sweden. I’m not playing so much in Sweden these days but I always loved Gothenburg so I can’t turn down a gig over there.”

1. Sebjak & Marcus Schossow – Liceu (Original Mix)

2. Sebjak – Space (Original Mix)

Last time we spoke your father who had a big influence on your career had just called you up and told you about a new artist he had discovered, Skrillex. Who has been on your dad’s radar since then, who has he been checking out?

“Just spoke to him he said that I should listen to Armin van Buuren’s latest ASOT – “it’s really good”, but he has been a fan of Armin since way back. He is still trying to convince me that he is the best.”

I also asked you what your proudest career moment to date was, back then it was playing Mainstage at the Summerburst Festival. Twelve months later, what is your proudest career moment to date NOW?

“I’ve been working with some really talented people, playing in Miami was really great as are some of the bookings I’ve got in my home country Sweden this summer. And something, which I can’t reveal yet will be massive news this summer. Of course reaching the top ten on Beatport this week has also been an extremely proud moment as it’s my first one.”

Where are some of the big festivals we can catch you at this summer?

“Got some cool festivals in Sweden and Switzerland confirmed still waiting for some other ones…”

Who are the producers from around the world you are giving high fives to at the moment?

“AN21, Steve Angello, NERVO, Özgur Can and Mike Hawkins.”

We caught you down in Brazil in February, where have been some of the best gigs for you these last few months…?

“Still have to go back to Miami and Space a few months ago. The energy and vibe was just insane so proud of that gig!”

Ibiza is just around the corner, when you’re not at Balaffia stuffing your face, where can we catch you this summer DJing?

“I will be playing at People for the Night at Space for AN21 and Max Vangeli and few others which I’m confirming now!”

Are you a good traveller when touring – are you able to do production whilst on the move?

“Sometimes yes, it depends where I’m going and how long for. I am usually able to get something done as I always have ideas in my mind!”

Which person from history would you most like to have a beer with?

“I’d love to discuss some physics theories with Einstein that would be really cool.”

What is the song that means the most to you?

“Daft Punk – ‘Around The World’.”

What is your secret skill, what are you great at that nobody knows about?

“I’m pretty good at wines actually. My father is still teaching me a lot haha…”

What is the last great album you listened to?

“Miike Snow – ‘Miike Snow’.”

And finally – what is coming out next studio wise from Sebjak?

“I have another collaboration with Marcus Schossow called ‘Kemi’ which is coming out on Spinnin…”
