Interview by Dan Prince

Steve, a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in this crazy world are you at the moment?

Thanks for having me! I’m in Sweden right now. I have a busy weekend ahead and looking forward to playing again!

What is the best new music you have heard in the last 24 hours?

I just had one of our SIZE acts (Highly Sedated) hit a cabin in the Swedish forest and the material they came back with was incredible!

The UK is on meltdown as we speak at the prospects of the next Cream Steel Yard show on November 25th when you will be headlining alongside Martin Garrix, Sigma, Sigala and Justin Mylo. This will be your debut inside the huge superstructure where 10,000 party people will be obeying your every groove…you must be excited about the big night?

Absolutely. I love playing in the UK! One of the first scenes that opened its arms for me and ill remain thankful for the early support! I have lots of fire to play so I’m really excited about that!

If it is one thing that Cream always excel at, it’s quality. Creamfields wins best festival award year after year in all the leading ceremonies…what have been some of your memorable Cream moments over the years?

I have so many, I don’t know where to start really! I remember the early days at Cream in Liverpool, legendary nights!

Give us 3 big tunes you’ll be spinning at the event, please give us a few words one each…

“Rejoice” – Which is one of my new ones, it sets the tone, changes the atmosphere and refocuses the crowd.

“Break Me Down” – One of my latest ones off my upcoming album. I’ve been playing it all summer and it goes down every time!

“Payback” – Because the crowd there has been a big part of the creation of it!

Most artists are winding down as Christmas approaches, you on the other hand find yourself on all systems go mode as the release date of your new album ‘Almost Human’ approaches. This long player goes into a much darker, artful direction inspired by your own spiritual awakening. You have chosen to release the album in three installments, what was the thinking behind this method?

I wanted to combine my artistic expression with the way I see life. We all go through things in life so I wanted to talk about what was happening both personally as well as the world as a whole.

Act1 Genesis; is about birth, beginning and growth

Act2 Inferno; is about hell, disaster, hate and darkness, which is where most of the world finds itself at the moment

Act3 Paradiso; is about paradise, heaven, love, passion and togetherness – this is where I’m at in life as we speak.

You have already brought us the delights of ‘Dopamine’ and ‘Break Me Down’ from the album, what else is in store for us all?

The rest of the album comes out early next year, all the other Acts are also available now so with those 6 songs, I wanted to get into album mode!

How long did the album take to create and where was it recorded?

This one was fairly fresh. I started last Christmas and finished it end of October, most of the album was recorded in different locations in Sweden. Half the album was written in the forest

Is this your best work yet?

Hard to say. The last two albums have different approaches and different concepts so they tell their stories. I love all my recent works. Dynamically and sound wise, there’s no comparison to my early work. This is a whole different world!

Album aside, what other projects is Mr. Angello working on at the moment?

There is always a lot of stuff going on, but my number one priority is to get all the graphic design, merch, web and overall branding done properly. I’m designing everything myself so there’s a lot going on!

And finally, as I mentioned it’s Christmas! Santa is all out of ‘more sleep’ and ‘a time machine’ for artists this year, so what else would you like the big man to bring you on the big day?

Cheeky to say “well-behaved kids”? – that’s what I tell my little ones!
