Wally Lopez

A Balearic Bass

The last decade has seen a few DJs creep into the front covers of Mixmag such as Nic Fancuilli, James Zabiela and this dude – people who we are going to love, dance, listen to and rejoice about for years. Dance music. Mr Wally Lopez take the stage…

A huge Spanish DJ, one of your country’s greats’..
“Well, it´s a great honour to know that some people think I´m leading the Spanish scene. But in Spain are too many great producers and DJs too. I´m just one of them who has always tried to learn and grow a little bit more. ”

Dude. A question we have been asking for years. Where does the name Wally come from?
“It’s a joke from my teens in Spain. Waldo is called WALLY.Every time I disappeared in a club (which was quite often), people would ask…where is Wally??”

What is Wally’s music style…?
“I would define it like House Music in general terms. I consider myself a quite versatile DJ who always try to adapt to the crowd I face. But I feel more comfortable on the Tech House side of things.”

Big Global Underground mix just under your belt. How did your this happen…
“Mixing a Global Underground compilation is a big honour. It is one of those landmarks that define’s your career when you look back and take stock.”

What did you aim to achieve when you set out with the mix?
“My goal was  to make people don’t stop dancing when they listen to it. Even in the car!”

And is that the same set up you use when you play live?
“Well, it´s not exactly the same but on the compilation I´ve tried to keep my musical philosophy. I think you will feel a similar groove that you can get on my sets.”

What’s more important – good tracks or a good flow to a set..”
“Both things are really important. You can´t forget either of them. Musical taste and therefore your track selection is always key, and mixing them in the right way allows you to transmit the energy to the crowd so they never want it to end.”
