Electro 2008

Miss Kittin made Kris Needs exclaim ‘Holy bat droppings!’ as she dropped ‘Kittin Is High’ in January, while Chromeo once again stepped up to the slightly cheesy pop plate with aplomb, ‘Needy Girl’ getting a host of remixes in February. Now who remembers their Utah Saints? ‘Something Good’ was just that, fifteen years on from the original getting a new lick of paint. Cut Copy threw some shapes with their outstanding song ‘Lights & Music’, leading Jerry Bouthier to say “It’s all about Australia now, isn’t it?” Two for June – an Audio Bullys track to pogo with (“Gimme That Punk”) and a bit of well-deserved recognition for Feist (‘I Feel It All’).

Two for August too – and it was mighty hard to avoid Alan Braxe’s new one – the Killa Kela and Fallon collaboration ‘Nightwatcher (Show Me)’. Andrea Parker, meanwhile, added some sound bass to her ‘Freaky Bitches’ remixes. Two for October? OK then… 80s retroist Ladyhawke made Stevie Nicks-shaped waves in 2008, and ‘Dusk Til Dawn’ was one of her best – while Crystal Castles consolidated a strong live reputation with ‘Crimewave’. DFA turned in an unexpected cracker of a remix with Clinic’s ‘Tomorrow’ to warm up late November, while December strutted its stuff to Fan Death’s ‘Veronica’s Veil’.
