Empire Of The Sun
Walking On A Dream
Virgin

The latest Antipodean act to threaten UK domination, Empire Of The Sun arrive on these shores bearing Star Wars-style artwork and a clutch of good tunes. None are better than the euphoric title track, a recent single, that struts its stuff with falsetto vocals. Don’t for a minute think they’re a one-hit wonder though, as this album pays enjoyable homage to ’80s disco without managing to sound too dated, save last song ‘Breakdown’ which sounds like The Cars’ ‘Drive’. There are some really good rhythm tracks here too, particularly the crossrhythms of ‘Swordfish Hotkiss Night’, a sultry and more tribal number. Of the first six tracks any one would do well as a single, emphasising their eye for a good tune and some catchy lyrics. When summer approaches, this one will work a treat – and it’s an excellent debut album.
