Electro’s everywhere in Europe and it’s now happening over here too. However with so many factions, it can get tedious to follow it all. Fortunately DJ Hell and Dr Lektroluv are a couple of guys you can trust in good faith. DJ Helmut’s been running his seminal imprint for years and as this new compilation of Gigolo’s latest releases attests, the Munich legend still has indisputable flair for exposing (if not discovering) fascinating weirdos who also usually happen to be brilliant musicians (Justice, David Carretta, Mount Sims, Savas Pascalidis, Play Paul, Kiko, Tiefschwarz etc). Dr Lektroluv is well known in Belgium for his electro radio show, the rest of the world knows him as the loony DJ behind the essential Dr Lektroluv comps. ‘Elektrik Planet’ is the sixth volume in the serie and not a bad vintage at all. With an eclectic selection that reaches as far as LCD Soundsystem, Alden Tyrell, Front 242, The Emperor Machine and Plastic Bertrand, it’s obvious the doc’s on top of the eclectic game.
