In recent interviews Morgan Geist has aired his concerns about the state of the music industry and the perils of running a record company. He gives the impression he’d rather just be making the music and no more – which is fair enough – especially when the music’s this good. Fans of Metro Area will recognise the slow disco influences and stylistic nods to subtle 1980s funk running through the music, and there’s some good songs here – Kelley Polar adding excellent vocals to ‘Detroit’, ‘Nocebo’ and ‘Palace Life’. Geist does a good slower number too – bringing a sense of completeness to a record that covers several bases, whether pop-founded or underground.
